Gilmore Junio crowdfunded medal

Gilmore accepted a “medal” at King Edward School in Kitchener, Ontario. It was not presented by Sports Canada, but rather a a social media campaign called “Thanks Gilmore” which raised funds through Indiegogo.com.

Cool.

Speedskater Gilmore Junio made worldwide headlines when he stepped aside from the men’s 1000 metres at the 2014 Sochi Olympics so Canadian teammate Denny Morrison could compete

Morrison, who’s from B.C., fell during an earlier qualifying round, and after Junio stepped aside, went on to win a silver medal. …

Bea Gheorghisor:

2014 Euros debuted on Wednesday with perhaps the most exciting competition we will witness at this year’s meet: the Juniors Team Final. Russia, Great Britain and Romania swapped places on the podium with each rotation and were only tenths apart before the last apparatus.

Russia were by far the best team on the uneven bars, with three 14+ scores from Seda Tutkhalyam Angelina Melnikova and Daria Skrypnik. The three points advantage gained on this piece was going to be enough to secure their victory. …

It was not Romania who lost the silver, however, it was Great Britain who won after a fantastic fight and an admirable team effort. …

Germany placed 4th and their best piece was bars where they were 2nd after Russia. They were followed by Italy – who had a strong floor rotation – and Belgium who surprisingly outscored France (due to beam and floor). …

Trinidad coach looking to train

When I was in Trinidad last month for an FIG Coaching Camp I met Shawndell McShine, age 22.

He’s a coach but is still training and competing.

McShine

If you know of any coaching opportunities for Shawndell, he’s available as early as June 9th, 2014. He’d make a great Camp coach. Of course he’d love to train, as well.

Email – shawndell1411 (a) yahoo.com

It’s easier for Shawndell to get a travel visa for Canada than the USA. But he’d love to hear about any and all options.

He has funds to fly to and from Trinidad. But would need help with food and accommodation.

NATIONALE NEDERLANDEN / Gymnasts from Martin Leroy on Vimeo.

It’s beautiful – the pacing, the tone, the music – did you orchestrate everything beforehand with precision or did some things evolve during the production?

I travelled earlier to Bucharest to see the trainers and their pupils, the gymnasts, so I could talk with them and see what kind of exercises the youngsters could do in difficult circumstances. It was very important for me that each gymnast had a difficult and astonishing moment, because I planned to shoot that moment in slow motion.

Was it all shot in situ or is there some fairly clever vfx work in the film?

Everything is shot live, but there are moments where the gymnast is wired, for instance the boy doing his exercise on the cement mixer was secured and the girl on the beam was also secured. We’d practiced the exercises throughout the whole week and on set for the last two days, so that the young gymnasts could get used to the set and the situation. …

The biggest challenge was to find a sports hall, where we had the possibility to paint, to put in all the materials and then break windows and add water to the whole thing without major damage. My producer Joop and art director Wilbert had sleepless nights about this.

I have NO idea what that commercial is about.

Aussie Olympian has funding reduced

South Australian Olympic trampolinist Blake Gaudry has recently been forced to pay much of his own way due to funding cuts by Gymnastics Australia and the South Australian Sports Institute (SASI).

Gaudry placed 13th at the 2012 London Olympics and was the sole Australian representative.

He is expected to be a medal contender in Rio de Janerio in 2016 and has received some help from Gymnastics South Australia, but is in search of funds to help keep his dreams alive. …

Despite the program being cut from SASI and a lack of a National Program, Gaudry holds a ‘high performance’ scholarship with SASI, which allows him access to the strength and conditioning centre and the recovery centre. …

He still has a personal sponsor, Joe Andon, CEO of Vuly Trampolines.

Good luck.
