Colussi-Pelaez, who trains on all four events, competed as a member of Spain’s national team at the 2013 World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium, where she successfully performed a sideways aerial on the balance beam – a first in World or Olympic competition, the skill is now named the Colussi-Pelaez. In 2013, she finished third in the all-around and on vault, beam and floor exercise at the Spanish National Championships. She was also a member of Spain’s 2012 team at the London Olympic Test Event and a member of Spain’s 2011 World Championships team in Tokyo, Japan. …
There have been breakthrough results during the past month and there’s potential for more, bearing in mind the Glasgow Commonwealth Games are on the horizon.
Courtney McGregor completed a couple of firsts for a New Zealand artistic gymnast; her fourth place in the vault, in Qatar, was the best showing by a Kiwi at the World Cup event and her silver medal, also in the vault, at the Pacific Rim championships in Canada last week was the first medal won by a New Zealander at the prestigious championships.
Fellow 15-year-old from the Christchurch School of Gymnastics Charlotte Sullivan made the floor final in both Qatar and Canada and her ranking would suggest she is also a serious medal contender for Glasgow. …
Their gym, Christchurch School of Gymnastics, was “battered and broken” during the 2011 earthquake. Right now the CSG gym pits are flooded due to massive rains. The gymnasts soldier on.
