Marta loves Gabby

“I was pleasantly surprised at the excellent fitness level of Gabby Douglas at the June National Team camp,” said Karolyi.

“After reviewing her training for the past five days, I feel with consistent training between now and September, she has a reasonable chance to get back into full shape prior to World Championships.”

Wyomi Masela – the hard way

Wyomi Masela competed at several European and World Championships as a member of the Dutch team. Because of her great results at the 2012 Olympic Test Event, she was announced as an Olympian in February 2012, getting demoted to alternate in June. 😦

She went through difficult times and got injured one year after the Games, but now she’s working on her comeback

English subtitled. The story of Wyomi Masela, Women’s Artistic Gymnastics. Videoproductions by http://www.sports2visuals

The road to success in gymnastics is brutal, very brutal. Thirty hours of training each week, not being able to go on nights out, always on a diet, and barely any holidays. All this for one goal; your own success. …

why do gymnasts land so poorly?

Female gymnasts, that is.

Aliya landing

Male gymnasts are, as a group, far more skilled at landing.

Uchimura STICK

open on landing

That’s from GS George – Leg Impact and Landing

Dr. George advises the gymnast see the landing as soon as possible. Reduce forces to zero by absorbing over time and distance.

What Aliya did on that Beam dismount was to “punch’ on landing, instead. WAG judges are far too lenient on landing deduction. They give very little reward to excellent landings.

USA WAG has added a 0.1 “stick” bonus for 2014. Let’s see if that helps. Gummi points out that the stick bonus may also result in more injuries in competition, especially on twisting landings like Amanar.
