Listen to the 45min audiocast here. 45min. Audio quality is not great.

England, Australia, Wales

Canada ranked only 4th after half the apparatus. That’s a disappointment. Isabela Onysko and Victoria-Kayen Woo had misses on the team’s weakest event, Bars.

Here’s a GymCan post on Facebook.

Congratulations to Wales. πŸ™‚

Australia’s women gymnasts are right in the thick of the battle for Commonwealth Games gold going into day two of the artistic teams event in Glasgow.

Flawless routines on the uneven bars by Georgia-Rose Brown and Larrissa Miller propelled the Aussie into second place behind England following two of the four apparatus in the teams event at a packed Hydro on Monday night. …

Miller, Brown lead Aussie gymnastics surge

The best commentary I’ve seen so far is by Lauren Hopkins on her new site, The Gymternet – 2014 COMMONWEALTHS: QUALIFICATION DAY 1 RECAP

England, Whitlock lead Commonwealths

After 3 of 6 apparatus are completed, team totals are:

England 133.806
Scotland 127.240
Canada 125.380

From that we can predict the Team podium. Something astonishing would have to happen to change the top 3. Or to change the medal ranking.

Whitlock is the favourite to win the AA.

More interesting is seeing which competitors will qualify for Apparatus Finals. Maximum 2 / nation.

Some of the top medal contenders qualifying scores.

FLOOR
Whitlock 15.600
Oldham 15.325
Keatings 14.966
Morgan 14.933

POMMEL
Whitlock 15.733

Keatings 14.533

RINGS
Morgan 15.200

Purvis 14.700
Oldham 14.533

Canada top 2 on Rings, so far. πŸ™‚

One comment I’d add. If you allow beginners to do standing backward handspring on a flat, hard Floor, you are almost guaranteed problems. Instead, have them train down an incline where gravity assists.
