Mark Williams named Worlds Coach

Congratulations.

… head coach of the US World Championship team in 2006 and was an assistant coach for the US Olympic squad at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Ga. And with the bronze medal 2011 World Championships team in Tokyo. Williams believes the veteran 2014 team has a much better opportunity to medal than the young squad he led in 2006.

… The six members of the US World Championships team heading to China are OU-alum Jake Dalton, Sam Mikulak, John Orozco, Danell Leyva, Alex Naddour and Donnel Whittenburg. This team boasts four Olympians in Dalton, Mikulak, Orozco and Leyva and is determined to improve upon the fifth place finish the team managed the last time the US competed in a team competition at the 2012 London Olympics.

… Another exciting recent announcement for OU fans is Jake Dalton was selected as the team captain

new Circus show in China

Franco Dragone‘s next project is, no surprise, another water show.

A Film Park including his new “Han Show” are both scheduled to open December 2014 in Wuhan, China.

The preview looks GREAT. 🙂

The audience chairs will move during the performance.

80 to 85 percent of the cast will be Chinese from disciplines like diving, gymnastics, synchronized swimming and ballet.

Cirque du Soleil stopped their shows in Japan and Macao. But Dragone’s House of Dancing Water has been going strong in Macao since 2010.

Worlds age: WAG 19.1, MAG 23.0

Oops.

FIG corrected their statistics.

Turns out average age as it stands now is 19.1 years, not 22.5 as published in the article linked below.

____ original post from Sept 10, 2014

Grandi… One unusual aspect of the nominative list is the average age of women registered to compete. At 22.5 years old, it is the highest average age for women at a World Championships, according to statistics that date back to 1987. The average age of women at the World Championships has been increasing — from the mid-17s in the early 2000s, it climbed to 19.12 years for the 2011 World Championships in Tokyo and 19.78 years for the 2012 Olympic Games. The average age of female competitors at the 2013 World Championships in Antwerp (BEL) was 19.16 years.

Should there be no changes to the nominative list, the average age of male competitors at this World Championships would be 23.0 years, the youngest average for men at a Worlds since 2006. The average male competitor in Antwerp last year was 23.29 years, while male gymnasts who competed at the 2012 Olympics averaged 24.44 years. ..

treating back pain

Many of the Gymnast Care articles are beyond my understanding. But not this one.

You could recommend it to parents and young gymnasts.

Dr. Joshua Eldridge:

Like any injury, it’s critical for gymnasts to have a plan of action when they return from back pain. …

We have 4 steps in this progression:

1. Pain Reduction
2. Control
3. Form
4. Strength

Zou Kai still not retired

His feet swing on. 🙂

China's Zou Kai competes in the men's gymnastics horizontal bar final during the London 2012 Olympic Games

I often use the most successful Chinese gymnast in Olympic history as my good BAD example of lack of artistry in Artistic Gymnastics.

That photos was linked from this article:

China’s dominance of the gymnastics competition at the Asian Games is expected to continue unabated despite their sport’s officials conceding they were sending what was essentially a ‘B’ team to compete at Incheon.

While the Chinese have won 123 of the 175 gold medals awarded since artistic gymnastics was introduced at the 1974 Asian Games in Tehran, their priority this year is on the world championships, scheduled for Nanning from Oct. 3-12, rather than the pan-continental competition.

Chinese media have said that multiple Olympic champion Zou Kai will headline their contingent for the Sept. 21-25 competition in Incheon
