new facility for Team Brazil

Heralded by the Brazilian Gymnastics Confederation  as “one of the greatest moments in its history,” the Team Brazil Artistic Gymnastics Training Center, a 2,500 square meter training facility with state of the art equipment, was inaugurated in Rio de Janeiro (BRA) last Friday.

The gym, located in Rio’s Barra da Tijuca district, will serve as the primary training center for the Brazilian men’s and women’s teams as they prepare for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games and beyond.

“This center, which is a partnership between the Brazilian Olympic Committee, the Brazilian Gymnastics Confederation and City of Rio de Janeiro, will be of utmost importance. It has a modern structure, following the international standards, and will provide preparation on the same level of the great powers,” said Luciene Resende, President of the Brazilian Gymnastics Federation.

… During the Olympic Games, the air-conditioned space will serve as the warmup gym for all gymnasts, and 2016 Olympic equipment supplier Spieth has already outfitted the training enter with the same state-of.-the-art equipment that will be used at the Games.

“This gym has everything,” multiple World medallist Jade Barbosa marveled at the opening. “On the day we arrived, it was hard to believe it was true. The quality is fantastic.”

The Brazilian men’s team is equally thrilled by the new center.

“It is a dream come true,” echoed two-time World Floor champion Diego Hypolito. …
