gofundme – Alanna Jones

John Carroll, Head Competitive Coach at the Surrey Gymnastic Society in BC, Canada:

Alanna needs our help! In August 2015, Alanna fell, more than 20 feet, out of a tree and suffered a life changing injury, breaking her neck. Alanna is currently a quadriplegic with no use of her legs and arms.

AlannaFor the last 3 months she was fighting for her life and recovering at Vancouver General Hospital. Her family; Shelley, Gord, Kelsey and Kristy have been by her side through the whole recovery. At one point, doctors wanted Alanna to have an electronic device put into her to help her breathe without a respirator. She told them, ‘not yet’, as they had not yet given her a chance to try breathing on her own. So the challenge was on! The first time the respirator was turned off she breathed on her own for 25 minutes. She is now breathing completely on her own, showing there is no quit in this girl’s personality. …

… Alanna and her family will have a lot of expenses coming their way over the next few years for sure. …

Any small or large donation you are willing to make would be so appreciated, you have no idea.

Bridget Sloan’s last season

Can it have arrived already?

Nick Zaccardi:

No other gymnast comes close to Sloan’s résumé — an Olympic medal (silver with the U.S. in Beijing), a World all-around title (in 2009), an NCAA all-around title (2013) and three NCAA team titles (2013, 2014, 2015). …

Sloan Florida

Marvin Sharp, her longtime Indiana coach until Sloan left for UF, was found dead in his jail cell in September, less than a month after being arrested on child molestation charges.

Sloan’s USA Gymnastics bio page was amended after Sharp’s arrest with the words “NOT A MEMBER” next to her Sharp’s club affiliation.

“All the happenings involving Marvin this fall was stunning,” Sloan said, according to the University of Florida Athletic Association. “Marvin was my coach. He helped me reach my goals. Marvin also helped me set goals I perhaps didn’t realize were in my reach, like the Olympics or World Championships. What happened this fall with Marvin is probably something I’ll never fully understand.”
