Our 2015 NCAA Apparatus Gold medalists. 🙂

Almost an afterthought, sometimes a let down, the Sunday afternoon finals were entertaining this year.

Organizers and NCAA did a lousy job announcing results. But here they are. Unofficial.

Dabritz entered the weekend as the favorite on the event, and she did nothing but solidify that reputation with her performances in the team competition where she became the first gymnast in history to earn back-to-back 10.0s in the NCAA preliminary and Super Six rounds. …

Prior to the start of the NCAAs, she was named the AAI Gymnast of the Year, an award that goes to the best senior gymnast as voted by the coaches. Only three other Utah gymnasts, Missy Marlowe (1992), Theresa Kulikowski (2003) and Ashley Postell (2008), have won the award.

She finished the regular season ranked No. 1 in the nation on the bars, No. 3 on the vault and No. 9 on the floor. …

the morning after Super 6 …

It was a pleasure and an honour to watch such a terrific final. This was the 9th in a row I’ve attended in person, and it was one of the best.

NCAA Women’s Gymnastics is the biggest and most successful competitive Gymnastics structure in the world. Road to Nationals ranks 82 teams. What a wonderful opportunity for all those gymnasts. All those coaches. And all us fans. 🙂

The Junior Olympic program leads seamlessly to College Gymnastics. Congratulations to the NCAA.

Though the rules used to separate the best of the best are silly, I still felt the team ranking ended up correct.

Florida 197.850
Utah 197.800
Oklahoma 197.525
Alabama 197.275

Auburn 195.625

Utah could have won. But when it was close in their last rotation, they did not stick enough vaults. Florida was stronger on Bars, I thought, than the Utes were on Vault. But it was close. If it had gone the other way, I’d not complain.

Oklahoma had a fantastic, fantastic year. (KJ Kindler should probably be named “NCAA Coach of the Year” every year.)

But they were let down by their Achilles heel – tumbling. Oklahoma’s tumbling is not competitive with the other 4 top teams. Nor do they look confident landing.

The NCAA really has to devalue front layout 3/2. 😦

OU Beam was fantastic. As usual.

Alabama was GREAT. If we repeated the Super 6 tomorrow night, the Tide could easily roll to victory. Any of the top 4 teams could win on any given night.

Anyone thinking Stanford’s qualifying to the Super 6 was “luck” should have seen them on Bars and Beam tonight. I would have gone 10.0 for Hong’s Bars & Beam. And Shapiro’s Bars.

Congratulations Cardinal.

Stanford’s Bars was the highlight rotation for me in Super 6.

And nobody can criticize Auburn. Though finishing 6th, this was a supreme achievement for these girls. Congratulations. I was so happy for you.

Bridget has been the single biggest factor in the … dynasty, I’d say. On that last Bar routine she nearly broke form on the overshoot. But with strength, toughness and sheer determination she SAVED it. And helped win another title.
