Technique Tuesday with Coach Barry Hyder of Capital Gymnastics. Barry has Mackenzie Brannan show a simple drill that teaches gymnasts to open their hips in the takeoff for double back saltos, full-ins, and double arabians.
Similarly, I like gainer backward somersaults. And “Cody” on trampoline.
Most coaches spend too much time worrying about the arms, not enough about an efficient opening of the hips.
Why not everyone should be allowed to upload to YouTube.

We are well into Gym Camp season where I live.
Normally this time of year I’m getting ready for the annual High Performance Gymnastics Camp in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. In 2009, however, co-owner of the host Funtastics club Lisa Rennebaum-Adlard decided to have a baby instead. (Delaney was born a week ago!)
We hoped to reschedule the June camp for August. But – so far – that’s not happening.
There are at least 2 good alternatives in the region:
