Orozco – Achilles

😦

John Orozco of the Bronx N.Y./Team Hilton HHonors (U.S. Olympic Training Center) will have surgery on June 19 to repair an Achilles tendon injury on his right leg sustained during a training session earlier this week.

“John is a fundamental part of our men’s program,” said Steve Penny, president of USA Gymnastics,” and he has proven time and time again that he can overcome adversity and achieve great things. We will certainly do what we can to support his recovery.”

As a result, Orozco has withdrawn from the U.S. Men’s Team for the 2015 Pan American Games, and the replacement athlete will be determined in accordance with the official selection procedures.

Inside Gymnastics

Surprisingly, it’s the same Achilles tendon he had repaired in 2010. It was injured that time on Vault. This time it was on Floor.

Youth Sports Parent’s Promise

Josette Plank:

As a sports parent, I will remember that the No. 1 goal of youth sports is to have fun.

I will tell my child to “have fun” without adding any ifs, ands or buts. I will not say to my child, “Have fun … but if you don’t score a goal, find your own ride home.”

As a sports parent, I will support my child in positive ways. …

Through youth sports, my child will learn commitment to a team. I will make sure my child is on time to practices and games. If my child cannot make a game or practice due to family obligations or illness, we will let the coach know as soon as possible. …

I may not be at every practice, and that is OK. I will see more improvement over time if I’m not scrutinizing every drill and workout. …

Tumbl Trak at Buckeye Gymnastics

The Buckeye Camp director for the past 18 years has been Dave Adlard. And for 18 years Dave has been telling me about Camp.

I finally got there this summer as a Tumbl Trak Ambassador.

We set up an Air Floor Pro and one of the new T-trainer vault horse / mini-tramps.

Buckeye is huge operation. About 3000 kids / week in two gyms. WAG team about 200 girls.

I’ve never seen a larger Camp based out of a club. It runs in 3 shifts. All day long. One day guest coach Cliff Parks was there from 8am – 9pm. (His daughter was training in a shift when he wasn’t coaching.)

Rotations include = Vault, Bars, Beam, Floor, Sprint training, Dance, Zumba and Sports Psych.

Aside from the regular Buckeye Staff, guest coaches included choreographer Dominic Zito, Luke Wasson from Precision and Sandy Sabo from Youngstown.

It was a treat to watch the Elite group (including Gabby Douglas & Nia Dennis) training.

Dave Adlard continues on to WOGA where he’s a guest coach every summer. Dave’s working the home Camps for the clubs of the 2012, 2008 and 2004 Olympic champions back-to-back. A busy guy at all times, Dave’s never been so busy as he is this Summer.

My advice to Dave Adlard: Bite off more than you can chew. Then chew like Hell! 🙂

Thanks to owner Dave Holcomb and Head Coach Kittia Carpenter for inviting in Tumbl Trak.
