Very funny, Coach Jonathan.
I never try to decide whether or not a gymnast can continue after a … suspicious minor injury. Instead I assign some alternative exercises they like far, far less than work-out.
Are those cheerleading shorts?
Bartlett Gymnastics Center in Illinois was the top Level 10 Men’s Team in 2010. They’ve graduated a lot of guys to the NCAA.

Still, Alabama, I find, uncool. Utah would never post a video this old school.

Another example of the insanely litigious American system:
A school district in West Virginia is taking out all the swing sets on school playgrounds. Administrators ordered all swings removed from Cabell County elementary schools after being forced into a $20,000 lawsuit settlement — the district’s second swing-injury related suit in a year. (The other suit is still in litigation.)
Schools Safety Manager Tim Stewart told the New York Times that one lawsuit involved a child who broke his arm after jumping out of the swing like Superman.
The decision to remove swings is one motivated purely by liability. Changing national safety standards have made it difficult for the schools to defend themselves against lawsuits. …

… America has become the most litigious nation in the world, by virtually any measure. According to the National Center for State Courts, 15 million civil cases are filed annually in the United States. The American civil justice system is the most expensive in the world, with costs running more than twice that of other industrialized nations. Yet despite the high costs of the system, it provides a poor return on the dollar—only 20 cents of each dollar goes to compensation for economic damages. …
When is this insanity going to start subsiding?

… The USA’s (Gabrielle) Douglas posted a 55.833 for an all-around score, but was unranked due to the maximum two athletes per country rule …
commentary on Gymnastics Examiner – U.S. teams dominate Pan American Championship
I’m not sure this is a good idea:
Sept. 2, 2010 – Earlier today, USA Gymnastics and the National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association (NCATA), formerly known as the National Collegiate Stunts and Tumbling Association, announced that USA Gymnastics will sanction NACATA events. NCATA has the goal of establishing itself as a sport within the NCAA framework.
“This is a natural extension for USA Gymnastics to work with the NCATA,” said Steve Penny, president of USA Gymnastics. “This sport combines many of the skills taught throughout gymnastics disciplines. Currently, six universities have teams in this sport …

As promised, they’re sending two completely different teams to Commonwealth Games and World Championships. Barring injury.
… British Gymnastics Women’s Technical Director, Adrian Stan: “We are fortunate to have great strength in depth, and backed up by a good medical service and programme, the gymnasts are in very good physical shape and we look forward to positive results in Rotterdam. The World Championships and Commonwealth Games being so close has created a strategic situation and we are confident that the Teams selected for both events will be capable of good results.” …
When it comes to “technical” training, most WAG coaches train Bars and Beam every day.
In a 4hr practice, for example, it’s common practice to schedule 1hr of each. (Perhaps we should be conditioning with some of that time, instead.)
I often go back to the article Managing Training Time 2002 (PDF) by J. McNeal, Ph.D. and Bill Sands, Ph.D.
They use this as an example of how a coach might priorize:

Lately, however, I’ve spoken to a few coaches who feel we need spend more time on Bars than Beam. (For the average gymnast it may take more hours to achieve the equivalent level as on Beam.)
Do you agree? … Beam coaches, do you agree?
It might work if we spend more time on Floor and low beams.
