Southern Utah University will host the final Western Athletic Conference Gymnastics Championship on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. in the Centrum Arena. The WAC will no longer be sponsoring gymnastics after this season because of conference realignment.

Southern Utah will enter the weekend coming off its best team total of the year in a 196.200 victory over Iowa, San Jose State and Ball State last Friday.
The Thunderbirds are currently ranked No. 34 in the nation and will look to score another 196-plus this weekend to secure a spot into the NCAA Regional meets on April 6. The T-Birds need to finish the year with a top-36 ranking to claim a regional berth. …

In her 15th appearance in the competition, six-time Olympian Oksana Chusovitina topped the women’s vault as qualification began Thursday at the 37th Tournament of Masters in Cottbus, Germany.
The FIG World Challenge Tournament features two days of qualification, followed by two days of finals.
Chusovitina, who turns 38 this June, averaged 14.850 for her handspring layout front full and Tsukahara 1 1/2. She is once again representing Uzbekistan, but still lives and trains in Cologne with coach Shanna Polyavkova. …
The organizers chose not to use the new FIG vault scoring formula, which more heavily emphasizes execution deduction. Ironically, this cost German gymnast Pauline Schäfer a spot in the finals.
