… A Texas teen has set the example of sportsmanship by unselfishly surrendering the basketball to a developmentally disabled member of the opposing team so he could score a point during a game.

Mitchell Marcus serves as the team manager for the basketball team at Coronado High School in El Paso, Texas.

In a battle of NCAA Champions, the Alabama gymnastics team came out on top against the UCLA Bruins Friday night, 197.075-196.375 in front of 11,775 fans in Coleman Coliseum. …

Alabama returns to the road for its next meet, traveling to Baton Rouge, La., for a Southeastern Conference showdown (L.S.U.) on March 8, before returning to Coleman Coliseum to close out the regular season against No. 1 Oklahoma on March 15.

gymnastics at Blue Heron school

Tumbl Trak, one of the co-sponsors, sent me to assist at a 2-day fitness event in January. We taught “gymnastics” to students at Blue Heron Middle School in Washington State.

LSU 197.050 – Georgia 196.825

The weak apparatus for LSU is Bars, yet Jay Clark’s LSU Bar lineup outscored his old team. Again.

Going into the final rotation, the No. 7 Georgia gymnastics team was trailing No. 5 LSU by .075, six hit beam routines couldn’t turn the tables as the Gym Dogs went on to finished with a 196.825 to LSU’s 197.050.

The Gym Dogs’ (6-6-1, 4-3-1 SEC) hit six for six on beam for the first time since Jan. 26 and posted their second-highest beam score of the season, but it wasn’t enough to overcome an uncharacteristic slow start. …

Alex McMurtry wins Nastia

AlexAlex McMurtry of Midlothian, Va./Richmond Olympiad Gymnastics, won the all-around title at the 2013 Nastia Liukin Cup Friday night at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass. McMurtry, competing in her third-straight Nastia Liukin Cup, proved the third time is the charm and posted a 38.450 to capture the overall crown. Aja-Monet Sims of Clermont, Fla./Brandy Johnson’s, 38.175, and Samantha Partyka of Katy, Texas/Champions Gymnastics Academy, 38.075, finished second and third respectively.

Proceeds from the event go to the Nastia Liukin Fund, a charitable fund within the National Gymnastics Foundation. …

Lisa Mason competes age-31

Sydney Olympian Lisa Mason announced her comeback to elite gymnastics after 12 years off gymnastics with her aim being to qualify for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. Mason will begin competing on vault and balance beam
