Simone Biles – Amanar

Gymnastike:

… Simone Biles easily won the level 10/open all around title Friday at the Alamo Classic and debuted a yurchenko 2.5 twist in a meet held on concrete!

It’s one thing to compete this vault on podium, but it’s even more difficult to throw it on a solid surface. Biles played it safe with a double on her first vault and even bounced out of it, then she threw the 2.5 with ease. According to the meet director. “it was beautiful – she could’ve done a triple!” …

I can’t find that competition vault online.

… I think she just might have some TALENT. 🙂

awkward moments in Gymnastics

Triple Twist Gym Blog compiled a list of those … moments.

Here’s a good one. Rhythmic Gymnastics

Oxana Skaldina … finished 3rd in the All-Around in Barcelona. She is remembered to have been in tears minutes after her last routine and famously refused to congratulate or acknowledge Carolina Pascual on her silver-medal victory, an event that would become legendary. She is currently a coach in Moscow, Russia. Her daughter, Daria Svatkovskaya, is also a rhythmic gymnast.

Mackenzie Brannan – Bars

I really like Mackenzie and have followed her progress for years. Her Bars have elite potential.

… but who are these judges?

International elite gymnast Mackenzie Brannan earned a perfect 10.0 for this jam-packed uneven bar routine during the exciting event finals session of the 2012 Alamo Classic in San Antonio. Watch for Brannan as she makes her senior international debut this year and works to achieve her dream of qualifying to the 2012 Olympic Trials.

Recreation Report Cards

Here’s one system that worked for us at Taiso.

Short. Simple. Not too onerous for the coach.

Page 1

Page 2

Those were photocopied back-to-back twice. Folded. One copy kept in the gymnast’s file, the other sent home to the parent on the second last week of the Recreation session.

I posted some thoughts over on RecGymnastics. Leave comments there, if you have strong opinions on the topic.

We’re still looking for Rec Experts to guest post on that site. Email me if interested.
