College gymnastics week #2

Top 25 Rankings for Team – 17 January 2011 – by Total Season Average.

Vanessa Steck has a comprehensive wrap-up on Couch GymnastNCAA Report: Week Two

Actually, I’m already getting interested in the (long) women’s College season. Minnesota went 195.325. Kent State 195.475. North Carolina State is in the top 10.

Over the next few weeks things will shake out with the same old, same old atop those rankings.

Florida is the big story, so far. They look unstoppable.

Aunt Joyce overstates for comic effect:

With a majority of the teams getting off to a particularly slow start this season, it is a dreary time for gymnastics fans.

He does make a good point here, though:

Overly-good sportsman, politically correct answers and fake smiles are wonderful for beauty pageants, but they have no place in elevating a dying sport like collegiate gymnastics. When is the last time you got really jazzed to see a group of sweet, socially-behind girls act like home schoolers who just hoped to do their best and see what happened?

There aren’t many colourful celebrities in College gymnastics right now.
