another Chinese age falsification scandal?

Started by discussion in blogs and chat rooms, It’s hit the mainstream media, and the IOC.

… “Definitely, if there is a discrepancy it must be solved,” Rogge said Monday in Prague.

… The discovery comes less than a year after the IOC stripped China of its 2000 Olympic bronze medal in women’s team gymnastics for using an underage girl. That violation was uncovered during an investigation into age fraud by China’s team that won the gold medal at the Beijing Games. The 2008 team later was cleared after Chinese officials provided original passports, ID cards and family registers showing all the gymnasts were old enough to compete. …

NANCY ARMOUR – Ages of Chinese skaters in question

… Among the skaters whose eligibility is in question are Zhang Dan and Zhang Hao, the 2006 Olympic pairs silver medalists

My guess is that this one will blow over. No repercussions whether China was guilty or not.

Florida Gators … and the rest

note: this post was originally incorrect. It’s been updated with the correct list. Thanks SEC fan

The Feb. 14th rankings are out from GymInfo.

I said that this past weekend would confirm whether or not Stanford was the #2 team in the nation.

And Stanford won both meets against tough opponents.

And Stanford set a school record for its best start ever.

But I’m still not convinced.

Right now it’s Florida flying high. And a log jam for #2.

The highest scores this year are Florida, Oklahoma, Alabama. I’m not sure Stanford can score high, unless Kristina Vaculik suddenly starts putting up 9.9+ on every apparatus.

I could even see UCLA getting it together for a 197.5 team score by Championships. They very nearly beat Stanford this weekend.

Gym Dogs – lackluster, uninspired, chicken

Called out by the Georgia Head Coach on the shellacking they took at the hands of #1 Florida:

… “There are some positives, but at some point I can not continue to gravitate towards the positives and try to find moral victories in what is, based on what we see every day at the gym, a lackluster, uninspired, chicken performance,” Clark said. …

Ontario at Canada Winter Games

The Bars coaches were not pleased.

… In the second rotation of the team competition, Ontario had major problems. Five of their seven competitors fell on Bars.

… they went to the balance beam and nailed it. Sabrina Gill, 2010 junior national champion, led the team and received the highest individual apparatus score of the evening with a 15.2. All four of Ontario’s scores on beam were above 14.0, totaling an impressive 58.2.

… Actually, the Ontario start scores are so high on Bars that they won the apparatus anyway.

Unofficial. But I’m getting it from a pretty reliable source – their coach.

Top 3 AA in the preliminaries. Prelim scores do not count towards the top 36 AA Final, though. That’s ‘sudden victory’.
