The Couch Gymnast linked to the Youtube channel Ginnastica Artistica Gymnasium TV, which will become the new favorite of all hard-core U.S. fans for the next four days. Why? Because the U.S. women are in Jesolo, and said channel has training videos.
… That concept of ‘dance in, dance out’ on balance beam is one of the defining characteristics of the apparatus in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG). It is the ability to combine acrobatic elements and dance elements with choreography to display “sureness of execution” …
Compare “five very different beam routines, deciding which are the most pleasurable routines to watch, based on how well they integrate their choreography with their skills“.
It is a feat of competition diving so difficult it was once thought impossible …
Teenage star Tom Daley and his Olympic partner Pete Waterfield completed four-and-a-half somersaults in under two seconds – the blink of an eye it takes to hit the water from the 10-metre board. And what’s more, they did it synchronised …

• North Korean gymnasts are still not going to the Olympic Games …
“North Korea has also banned Hong [Su Jong] for life and ordered her to return all medals and titles as the result of grave negligence and damage caused to the Association’s reputation.” As though Hong was the one responsible for falsifying her age! What bull****.

… brought a disciplinary suit against a Chinese Men’s Artistic Gymnastics judge for having violated the ethical code and judging rules.
The incident took place at the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou (CHN) in November of 2010, during the Men’s Artistic Floor Final.
A Chinese judge on the Difficulty panel, Mr Shao Bin, modified an Execution score prior to its release without informing either the head Execution judge or the Superior Jury; Mr Bin committed this act upon his own initiative and with complete disregard for the rules in force. His action led to Chinese gymnast Zhang Chenglong’s ascent from second to first place, tied with Kim Soo Myun of Korea …

I don’t see how there could be any appeal on behalf of Shao Bin.
Note how even the Difficulty judge in this case was aware of what Execution score was needed for a medal in the Floor final.
Be aware that all the WAG judges at American Cup knew exactly what execution score Jordyn Wieber needed on Floor to win the All-around.
Update: Some felt the last sentence (above) was some sort of slight against Jordyn. Or that specific judging panel.
Not so.
My point is as stated – good judges at the end of the meet know what score is needed to put an athlete on the podium.
In the case of American Cup, they knew, and decided that Jordyn should win the AA. And I agreed (eventually) that was the correct ranking. Kudos to the American Cup judges for getting that ranking right, despite the appearance of yet another SCAm.
