media reporting at Worlds

Philippe Silacci, FIG Media Officer, as quoted in International Sports Press Association (AIPS) magazine, October 2010:

… In 2010, on-site Internet access in Moscow (RUS – Rhythmic), Rotterdam (NED – Artistic) and Metz (FRA – Trampoline) will be free for the press….

The full article was reprinted by the Romanian Gymnastics Federation.

Wifi will be available from the in-gym gallery, not only back in the press room. Expect dozens of live feeds of the action. And at World Championships Rotterdam it will be far more accurate than usual since Longines is providing a live feed of results to journalists.

Kudos to FIG for this.

Gym/Skate Craptacular?

Leave a comment if you have an opinion on the Skating & Gymnastics Spectacular starring Evan Lysacek and Nastia Liukin. It airs Jan. 9 at 4 p.m. ET on NBC.

Didn’t get much love from Gymtruthteller or comment from Aunt Joyce (VIDEOS).

Courtney Kupets, Courtney McCool, Hollie Vise, Ivan Ivankov, Jonathan Horton, Nastia Liukin, Raj Bhavsar.

I’ve stopped paying attention to SPECTACULARS years ago. But the guys sometimes do some interesting stuff.

Gymnastics Federation of India a useless organisation

That’s one of the blunt headlines in the Commonwealth Games host nation media right now.

Rather than celebrate the historic first CWG gymnastics medals of Ashish Kumar (Bronze on Floor, Silver on Vault) the GFI president JS Kandhari asked India’s chief coach Vladimir Chertkov sarcastically if ‘that was all he could deliver… ‘

Chertkov does not suffer fools gladly.

He was quoted as saying:

… GFI just does not have any knowledge of the sport. It is an useless organisation …

Worse,

… “India was suppose to go for the World Championship in Rotterdam but now the federation is not even sending the team.

The Federation is prepared to pay the penalty, which is more expensive than sending a team. …

The penalty a few years ago was $10,000. I’m not sure what it is today.

Chertkov’s contract is going to expire on November 30. Something tells me he’ll be returning to the USA.

Dena Anne Weiner – fit Mom

The former UCLA and USA Jr. Elite gymnast is a fitness pro … who was dared to start fitness competitions by College teammates at age-32, when a mother of three.

Most of her awards came when she was in her 40s. Now that’s impressive.

slow-mo Rhythmic gymnastics

Of all “gymnastics sports”, for me Rhythmic is the most complicated. It’s very difficult for a non-expert to identify the requirements.

Slow-motion mix featuring the star gymnasts of the Individual competitions performing at the 2010 Rythmic Gymnastics World Championships in Moscow (RUS).

first CWG medal for India

Some good news for the host nation.

India on Thursday created history by bagging its first Commonwealth gymnastics medal with Ashish Kumar clinching the bronze medal in floor exercise category in the men’s event.

This is country’s first medal since the beginning of Commonwealth Games in 1930 in Gymnastics, a sport in which India lagged way behind till Thursday.

The crowd roared as the 19-year old lad scored an impressive 14.475 points to snatch the bronze medal. …

His goal was to WIN. And to win Vault, as well.
