The 2012 World Acrobatic Gymnastics Championships ended in a tie.

1. CHN – Jian Tang, Lei Wang, Yi Zhou and Yeqiuyin Wu
1. GBR – Dorian Walker, Jesse Heskett, Matthew Evison and Richard Hurst
3. RUS – Valentin Chetverkin, Maksim Chulkov, Anton Danchenko and Dmitry Bryzgalov

Acrobatic Gymnastics Worlds

The first World Championships of Acrobatic Gymnastics to be held outside of Europe begins today in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

April 16 – 18, 2012 – Worlds
April 20 – 22, 2012 – World Age Groups

Details.

It’s my favourite gymnastics discipline. But I don’t really understand the rules.

FIG posted a primer:

… Acrobatic Gymnastics offers five different possibilities of partnerships to the athletes:

Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Pairs;
Women’s Group (3 gymnasts) and
Men’s Groups (4 gymnasts).

… The exercises presented in competitions by the pairs/groups must not exceed 2:30 minutes, have to include a certain number of required collective (partnership) and individual elements and are of three different types: static (balance), dynamic, and combined.

China Acro Men’s Group

Double pike Jaeger. Triple pike backward. Comedy and theatrics worthy of Cirque du Soleil. This is the ultimate in acrobatic sport.

In 2010, China’s Acro Men’s Group was outscored by a narrow margin by the Group of British Gymnastics. who took the world title in a dramatic Final. What will happen in 2012?

Oakville Gymnastics

I arranged for Chris and James from Tumbl Trak to visit Oakville Gymnastics in Toronto.

They did interviews on the theme of “positive coaching” with coaches Kelly & Sue Manjak, and Tumbling / Acrobatic Gymnastics Head Coach Don Holmes.

They also interviewed (potential) Olympians Peng Peng Lee, Jessica Savona and Mikaela Gerber. The Oakville girls are going for it. They’ll need everything they’ve got to qualify for the Canadian Team to London. No playing safe. Peng showed major upgrades on all 4 apparatus since Pacific Rim.

Tumbl Trak brought in some equipment for testing, including these “Fitness Wheels“, not yet available for sale.
