This is the future. Get ready.
The video you are about to see contains no camera tricks or CGI of any kind. This skateboard is really, truly, controlled with your brain. …
… they wowed CES with their Board of Awesomeness, a Microsoft Kinect-powered skateboard that the rider controls with various gestures. They parlayed that into a shopping cart that can follow you around a grocery store, scan your groceries, and possibly even check you out automatically.

Over the past week we’ve been using an iPad in the gym pretty much non-stop. It’s a winner. We’re using the Swim Coach Plus HD ($2.99) video app. Excellent.
Whether you like it or not, this is the year of the iPad. It’s soon going to be everywhere.
Grace Chiu snapped this pic of judges using them for analysis during Gymnix podium training.
See more of Grace’s Gymnix photos on Examiner.
UPDATE from Grace:
Haha… that was a posed shot… We don’t judge using iPads. We keep our documents, like the Code, Help Desk, Models, clarifications there so they’re at our fingertips and we don’t have to print loads of paper and lug around 4-inch binders. Plus, it holds up my ProScore keypad.

Many nations offer one level of competition where gymnasts vault to flatback. In the USA WAG, it’s Level 4.
From Norberts:
Our slipover cover is a cost effective alternative to purchasing a regular Level 4 system.
Convert your 5′ x 10’ practice mats or pits into a Level 4 landing system by simply stacking any combination to meet 32″, 40″ and 48″ competition heights. Cover has a permanent yellow judging line, eliminating need to measure and tape before event. 2” wide webbing straps with side release buckles and a snug fit prevents mat stacks up to 48” from shifting.
Custom colors are available.
VS-300 Level 4 Slipover Cover – $175.00
At the Great West Gym Fest, instead of base mats, we used a Tumbl Trak Air Pit for the Vault competition. Adding top mats to vary the height.
Much lighter and more easily portable.
Leave a comment if you’ve got any other competition Vault set-up to recommend.

NBC and YouTube will team up to deliver the Olympics online this summer. …
MSN provided the video player for the 2008 and 2010 Olympics, but its deal with NBC ended after the Vancouver Games. …
Hurray.
MSN used Silverlight technology, often problematic. YouTube will be far more reliable. Fast streaming.
NBC has not announced how many hours of live video it will offer this summer, but NBC Sports Chairman Mark Lazarus said that all events will be broadcast live online or on TV. During the Beijing Games, NBC offered more than 2,200 hours of live video coverage and more than 20 simultaneous live video streams at peak times. …
There has been a steady decline in young viewers for NBC’s broadcasts of the Olympics in recent years. The average age of a Summer Olympics prime-time viewer has risen by nine years since the Barcelona Games, according to data from Magna Global. Cordella and others at the network see the relationship at YouTube as a way to reverse that trend. …
So does that mean we can watch the Olympics on YouTube for FREE.
Not necessarily. Details are yet to be clarified.
This is another step in the trend to broadcasting all sporting events online. At Canadian Gymnastics Championships 2012 we plan to LIVE stream every routine for every competitor. Wish us luck.

One of their best products. I saw it used first in Melsele, Belgium. Lieven Vercruyssen of EuroTumble.com set one up so the club could try it out.
Easy up.
Small electric pumps and bigger valves have improved the inflation process significantly, over the years.
There are a vast number of drills you can do with that unique apparatus. Useful for every program in the gym. (You can’t have too many inclined surfaces, so far as I’m concerned.)
To see some variations, click PLAY or watch it on YouTube.
Cost is about $1200. Details.

I spent last week with the Tumbl Trak video team, visiting Washington State gyms, brainstorming best use of their products with different kinds of user groups. In different kinds of facilities.
Here we are at rural Brinnon Elementary.
Instruction was provided by Carrie Lennox of Jefferson County Parks & Rec who was there 4 days. Fun and fitness in a safe but challenging environment. A mobile program.
We dropped in (and trained) at the Twisters Adult class in Port Renfrew.
Here’s Carrie’s regular “Kid Fit” Parks & Rec class in Port Townsend, a set-up, take-down facility. She’s worked closely with Tumbl Trak for years.
First day in the program for this lad:
Again, the goal is high activity in a fun, safe environment. Rather than put little kids up high on a rope, why not have them sliding on the floor? Fun … and much safer.
I’ll post details on each of those programs on Rec Gymnastics over the coming week.
John Smith at NASA Gymnastics is genius at coming up with drills for Team. We got plenty of video.
The biggest news at Tumbl Trak is that they have a viral video — nearly 600,000 views. You can’t buy that kind of publicity.
