I’d assumed it was yet another teen drama of very little acrobatic interest. Yet it’s gotten some really good reviews.
Hellcats is an American cheerleading comedy-drama series for The CW starring Alyson Michalka, Ashley Tisdale, Robbie Jones, and Matt Barr. Based on the book Cheer: Inside the Secret World of College Cheerleaders by journalist Kate Torgovnick and described as “Election meets Bring It On” by critics, the series follows the life of Marti Perkins, a pre-law college student who has to join the cheerleading team, the Hellcats, in order to maintain her scholarship.

Whether or not USA Gymnastics should get hooked up with Cheer is a controversial topic. But everyone agrees Cheer coaches need to improve, their safety standards be set higher. This video helps. Thanks Shawn.

… My advice to Naama is to consider this an advanced technique. Beginners should perfect long, low backward handspring series first. (Think of a rock skipping across a lake.)
Manjak has gymnasts do many sets of 5 normal ffs every day, for example.
Much, much later you can shape the skill for specific reasons, as Watanable is doing here.

If Cheer didn’t tumble, Artistic gymnastics coaches would enjoy the sport. Enjoy it as much as Acrobatic Gymnastics.
The turn off for Artistic is dangerous tumbling.
