Overall, Russians Seda Tutkhalyan and Nikita Nagornyy became the most successful Women’s and Men’s Artistic gymnasts respectively at Nanjing 2014. YOG All-around champion Tutkhalyan collected a total of two gold and one silver medal and Nagornyy won three gold, one silver and one bronze.

“In fact, I was not very confident,” said Nagornyy. “My job was to do my thing, do it well, then I would be in the top three. I didn’t think I would be first.”

I’m even more convinced there is a place for a Youth Olympic Games in Artistic Gymnastics. I’ve heard no negative comments from the participants this time around. The only downer is that USA will not send a WAG competitor. It would have been more entertaining with an American on the Floor.

If USA had sent a junior woman to compete in YOG, she would have won 5 gold medals. She would have won the AA by about 3 points. Let’s face it, the USA junior women are in a league of their own. Any of the top six USA junior girls (from the recent US nationals) would have dominated the competition.

Hehe, most of the ‘gymternet’ seems to be glad that USA didn’t send a female gymnast so that others had a chance of winning the gold medals.

Gracie . That is not a given . The idea of this is to build up the experiences the gymnast ( & her coaches) in a truly international multi sport comp. They get assigned accomodation , assigned medical personnel & overall to represent their sport first & nation second. All in a foreign nation with a foreign language& customs.

For other sports it is not about the now either but the future . Medals really don’t matter. Look at that pic of Elly & Seda – they are forging friendships & realising some things . The day I see Marta happy as Seda’s coach towards a competitor is the day I enter rehab.

I’d like to emphasize that Giarnni Regini-Moran solidly hit every single routine he competed. 17 straight routines without any major errors.
