Update:

Jennifer Isbister checked the official website, finding that Gymnastics is listed. The exact gymnastics disciplines to be included is not clear.

This is the first I’ve heard. :-(

New sports and capping of numbers are on the agenda of the Commonwealth Games Federation as it seeks to keep the Commonwealth Games relevant in tune with modern times.

With the programme for Gold Coast 2018 already locked and basketball set to replace gymnastics, the CGF general assembly, to be held next year in Auckland, will determine the new structure besides voting on the host city for the 2022 Games.

Durban (South Africa) and Edmonton (Canada) are in the fray for the 2022 Games, while Wales has hinted at the possibility of putting up a joint bid with Cardiff, Newport and Swansea to gain the right to host the 2026 Games. …

Changes ahead for the Games

Shame, as there’d be some good competition between Canada, England and Australia.

Gymnastics is an optional sport for the Commonwealth games, so it is not guaranteed a spot in any Commonwealth Games. But luckily it usually is included and since it is one of the most popular hopefully it is
included in the future. But I’m almost certain it will be included in 2018 and has even been allocated a venue (Southport Broadwater Parklands).

Basketball is replacing judo, not gymnastics. Just another example of the quality of journalism in old media. Never trust anything you read in a newspaper. The journalist probably interviewed someone who got muddled up and said gymnastics instead of judo. The journalist did not fact check and printed gymnastics.
