Louis Smith to Commonwealths?

That would be the best “solution” to the media stink kicked up by Mr. Louis Smith.

I’d love to see him there.

Louis on Louis

Eddie Van Hoof, Team GB’s men’s artistic head coach, said that although he had been “full of admiration” for Smith since his return, his silver-medal winning pommel horse routine from London 2012 had since been bettered by others in the squad.

“I am full of admiration for Louis’s performances on his comeback, but the rest of the squad have moved on,” said Van Hoof. “We have two-world class performers on the pommel horse in Max Whitlock and Daniel Keating and both have higher start values and potential podium returns than even Louis. …

But Van Hoof insisted that Smith, Britain’s most successful male gymnast in the modern era, was still under consideration for the English team at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow despite his Twitter outburst, insisting: “The door is still open for Louis.” …

Update:

I said “Nobody in Gymnastics aside from Louis thinks Louis should be on the GBR Europeans and Worlds Teams 2014.” Seems I’m wrong.

Luke Carson, Theo Seager, Louis himself and others have been posting comments on the Facebook Full Twist Gymnastics page:

Louis makes two main points:

– for Team, if he hits Pommels, his contribution could be significant.

– if on the GBR team, they’d have 3 potential Pommel medalists, not two. Funding is based on medals.

Lucas Carson was disappointed how the announcement was made. He says Louis and his coach were not personally informed in advance.

related – Luke has withdrawn from Europeans.
