Catherine Lyons dominates Espoir

Catherine, from Europa, won the AA and all 4 apparatus, despite a fall on Bars.

Here’s the BG write up – Catherine Lyons completes Espoir dominance:

Competing in the brilliant Emirates Arena following the 2013 Glasgow World Cup gave all the gymnasts a great opportunity to gain vital experience of competing on podium in a huge arena …

Her Beam and Floor are lovely.

Love her line and flow on BB, but someone needs to work with her on getting rid of the jerky movements and persistently flexed wrists!

Awesome! I really do love Catherine’s floor and I’m excited to see how her abilities develop as she matures. That spin on beam is gorgeous too.

What value is her beam mount?

Anonymous, I’m with you! She’s got great skills and I love that she “performs” her routines – that really can’t be taught.

However, in all the hype, there’s not much mention of that dodgy choreo, and very “flicky” wrist movements.

The beam choreo, with all the arm waving and foot flicking is neither dramatic or classical (which I think is what they were aiming for?) It’s actually a little cringe worthy – why such intense, clunky dance?

Maybe someone could show her a Hollie Dykes clip? She has a similar build, and I love the way her acrobatic skills are fluent and well performed – but nobody needs to do that much finger/wrist/arm/everything flicking.
