We need extra support
Since Special Olympics has dropped the gymnastics program in Northern California, Chelsea and her coach, Dawn Pombo, are not eligible for any reimbursements for travel, training etc. Chelsea’s coach is required to be with her at any event she competes in. I’d change it to, “Chelsea Werner is a world class gymnast with Down syndrome.”
Do you see the difference language can make in honoring who people are? People first language fights stigma by changing the way we think about the individual. Despite it being a part of her life, Chelsea is clearly not defined by her disability.

Thanks xmaestro.
I changed the wording as you recommended. Her accomplishments are astonishing and praiseworthy. I meant no disrespect of any kind.
