30yr-old Lisa Mason is back

Former British Olympic gymnast Lisa Mason is to return to the sport more than 12 years after retiring.

Huntingdon-based Mason, who turns 31 in February, won Commonwealth gold and competed at Sydney 2000 before quitting gymnastics in the same year.

But now she is hoping to qualify for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. …

I find this fascinating. I love following retired gymnasts who re-enter the sport at a much later age, after having had children etc.

I was so excited when Moceanu did the same thing! And Annia Hatch, and even girls who’d only been out for a few years, like Chloe Sims and Daria Joura from AUS.

It’s very interesting to see how they cope and the kinds of skills they can regain. I remember watching Lisa Mason as a kid! I dunno, there’s just something very inspiring about watching someone try to do the impossible ;)

Good luck Lisa, I’ll certainly be cheering her on for those first few big comps. I hope her dream of making a Comms Games team comes true.
