competition slackline?

… I thought those diversions were for mellow hippies. :)

Not so. The party’s just getting started. Potential for acrobatics on slackline is far higher than Beam. And you are ENCOURAGED to fall on it.

GymRep camp has a huge slackline set-up. It’s an ideal addition to any gymnastics program.

The one downside … How do you fix and adjust tension?

Problem solved. Gibbon’s now selling a portable freestanding structure $299 for setting up anywhere.

It’s an easy, inexpensive addition to your program.

Surprised there’s no padding on the frame. Looks dangerous.

Slacklines are great for developing neuromuscular control. However, the frustration component is high for beginners. I set one up for kids to use on their own, but found that while they all wanted to try it they gave up on it after repeated attempts were not as successful as they expected. I then replaced the slackline with a tight rope, which the kids found easier to master, and then they moved on to the slackline. Because the tight rope is more rigid and has a bit wider support area basic balancing skills are easier to develop. A tightrope is easy to construct. You just need two sturdy supports like trees (A tightrope will definitely have more tension on it than a slackline so the supports have to be bombproof.), a 20′ length of 2″ diameter, three-strand, twisted manila rope (available online), a couple of short pieces of chain and a come-along cable puller. As return stations, or part of an urban gymnastics course, I definitely agree that both slacklines and tightropes are excellent additions to a gym setup.

How so? I’ve seen people do tumbling on slackline (and circus wires too for that matter). It is only an inch wide though.

It’s sad to see such a disparity in the prize money for men and women.

I don’t know how big this is.

…because I can’t read. It’s 4.5 meters. Also, it’s basically just a sloped cover for their slack frame which is like the one from Gibbon.
