Most 7 year olds are cute, they have been on this earth 84 months and they don’t know how to multiply yet. How did they get so much control and power in a family? We are seeing more and more families catering to the desires and whims of 7 year olds as if they know what is right for them. As if they are “worldly,” educated and have a grasp at right and wrong. I loved this article. Too many people think that they have to be “nice” to their kids and be their “Friends”. Parents are often too afraid to discipline or raise their voice, especially in public, for fear others will scorn them. I always said that if my kids say they hate me every now and again then I am doing something for their greater good. Over time, you hear them lamenting that other coaches/parent figures don’t give them enough discipline or structure and you breathe a sigh of relief that they understand how much they need that from time to time.
