#london2012
The American Head Coach gives us a glimpse into what’s happening in the days leading up to the Olympics.
… The proven plan has been to arrive on site well in advance with the strategy being to adjust to the time change as well as rehearse transportation and logistical issues.
Arriving a minimum of one day early for each hour of time change is the goal. Our team ran the
gambitgamut with team members from Eastern, Central and Pacific time zones (5-6-8 hours difference from London respectively). We arrived one week in front of our official podium training (basically the dress rehearsal for competition). …read more on The Gymnastics Coach

What does Geddert mean by “Our team ran the gambit with team members from Eastern, Central and Pacific time zones”.
What’s a gambit? Does he mean gamut?
Geddert is an idiot honestly can`t stand the guy, good luck to the girls the russians are looking strong they better be on their A game.
No Han, Gambit is a word:
gam·bit
noun?/?gambit/?
gambits, plural
(in chess) An opening in which a player makes a sacrifice, typically of a pawn, for the sake of some compensating advantage
A device, action, or opening remark, typically one entailing a degree of risk, that is calculated to gain an advantage
– his resignation was a tactical gambit
it looks like they are in PJ shorts … so tacky!
Haha David I tend to agree with you… a little. Obviously a very successful coach, can’t argue that. He runs an incredibly successful gym too – across all levels. Can’t fault him there either!
But man oh man, the dude loves himself. The tweets, the blogging, the pics of the sports car… Self-promotion like you wouldn’t believe! The way he writes about himself is pretty hilarious at times. In that post above about ‘getting an Olympic tattoo’? Ummm… where’s your leotard mate? We’ve yet to see John’s beam routine!
Then he’s probably call me a talentless whinger! Fair’s fair… I’m an Aussie, we have serious tall poppy syndrome, I can’t help it
No Anon. Gambit might be a word, but saying “ran the gambit” is incorrect unless the girls were actually playing chess, in which case Komova would likely win over Wieber because the Russians are known for their chess champions.
Well, we can’t fault Geddert for posting some informative, behind-the-scenes tidbits, and his lack of PR filter is refreshing in this ultra-PC age. But I believe it would behoove him to download a spelling/grammar check program that should catch some regrettable errors (“mute” point comes to mind). That being said, it was great to read that even the competitive Komova was willing to trade Olympic pins with Coach Geddert.
No Way, I’m all for the guy!
The guy’s a businessman, and a great one at that….. I think he has well and truly earned the right to toot his own horn!
Self promotion, PC or not, I think its GREAT he is taking the time to post informative, true accounts of his thoughts. (I’m sure there is spin, but I dont think he is witing complete falsities)
Go John, hope to hear more posts soon!
Lots of folks earn the right to ‘toot their own horn’. Personally I’m a bigger fan of those who ‘deserve’ to, but choose not to…
I love reading his comments. Thanks John!
If you would like to hear John’s best behind the scenes audio go to today’s live podium training on NBC and listen to the exchange he has with Chow starting at 35:00. Monkey Rodeo, priceless!!!
Spellcheck wouldn’t have helped since gambit is an actual word (just not the correct word).
And yes, the Komova anecdote is adorable.
What are the pins John is talking about?
Only Michael Phelps, compared to Bieber is an ant next to Michael Phelps.
