USA Olympic favourites

The story of the year, so far, is just how dominant team USA looks in the days leading up to the London Olympics. They have difficulty, consistency and depth.

Gabby Douglas is definitely a threat to win the AA. Obviously Shawn Johnson was no fluke for Chow.

In team prelims London it’s going to be very difficult for Russia and China to stay close. 3-up, 3-count … anything can happen.

Everything must go right for Romania to hang on to 4th.

OMG I can’t believe you just said that Rick. Why is it that everybody is acting like Chow taught Gabby everything she’s doing now? Take a look at her bars and Shawn’s bars for example. Does that look like Chow bars to anybody? Or does her bars look more like all the other Excalibur girls (where she originally came from not long ago for reasons better not talked about) including Marcia Newby, Cory Fritzinger, Randy Stageberg and well just about anybody else who ever trained with Jim Walker? She may be more consistent in her presentation now, but is it because of coaching style or just because she’s matured? THAT is anybody’s guess. But as far as skills go I personally have videos of everything she is doing right now (except for the Amanar) from more than 5 years ago, and in some cases even more so please let’s stop pretending like she was a complete nobody until she started with Chow.

To me this whole story is really reminiscient of Paul Hamm, where no credit at all was ever given to Stacey Maloney for anything that Paul ever did after he left his gym. Instead Avery was credited with everything Hamm has ever achieved. How nice…

She certainly has not “deproved” since going to Chows.

Do you have links for videos of her routines with Excalibur? … It would be interesting to compare how much that’s changed.

I’m going to Chow’s soon, by the way. Interviewing him about “positive coaching”. I’ll ask the coaches and Gabby about how much she learned at Excalibur.

She didn’t seem too improved at Pac Rim, Rick…

And there is lot of stuff of her on the net already from her Excalibur days. And I generally never post anything without consent of the athlete, especially training tapes.

Also, not saying that Chow is not a good coach and that perhaps she is not doing better with him, I honestly don’t know, but 10 years at Excalibur and a year at Chow’s, that’s all I’m saying. I can do the math.
