Men’s Vault is by far the apparatus with the most difficulty in Artistic Gymnastics. No woman has ever competed any of these.

FIG landing mats are not safe for this level of trick. We need something more like the Double-mini landing surface.
Thank Canadian judge Dave Copeland for the link.

I agree I recently started my team only vaulting to 16 inch double mini landing mats
Gwang Ri Se has put both those vaults to his feet in competition but never both at the same time. Only gymnast in the world with two vaults over 7.0. I think both should be 7.4 though. If he wasn’t from north korea (with their recent ban) they would be worth more…especially the tsuk full in. I doubt we’ll see that vault again for a while but that’s probably because other nations have more regard for their athletes safety than NK. Ri Se is such a beast. He used to mount floor with a tuck triple-double and dismout with a layout double-double, of course that was back when 4 passes was the most you’d have to do.
@yourfacedude
Agreed, NK gymnasts on floor and vault are inhuman, but it was actually a different NK gymnast that did the tucked triple double and lay double double dismount on floor. It was Ri Jong Song, that was also the year(2004) the triple double on floor was actually named after him.
At least widen the surface. People twist their knees just from coming off the mats.
I’m still irked that Ri Jong Song didn’t make the Floor final in 2004. This new code would have helped him.
@Flip828 you’re right I just assumed they were the same person…something something I better check myself before something something
There are women who have trained these vaults (Antolin with double pike for example) and are capable of doing them, but ultimately their coaches wouldn’t let them do them in competition. One coach told me that it just wasn’t worth the risk because if you are off there is no way out of the double salto vaults. Even though his gymnasts were clearly doing them safely and with huge height in the resi pit, he wouldn’t let them do them on a hard surface.
