Jaeger double front?

We’ve not yet seen anyone compete the Jaeger with an extra salto. A recent article linked from Science of Gymnastics Journal analyzed the skill.

… From the data it can be concluded, that the double Jaeger is possible in either tucked or piked body posture …

Despite its feasibility, there may be … arguments why the Jaeger Salto on the high bar is not performed that often in international competitions, and potentially, why the double Jaeger may not be attractive for gymnasts to learn as compared to other release-regrasp skills.

… the Jaeger salto is a forward salto during which the athlete “sees” the high bar relatively late prior to regrasp, and therefore has less time to adjust the regrasp based on visual information, as compared to other flight elements, like the Tkatschev (Gervais & Tally, 1993; Raab, de Oliveira & Heinen, 2009).

… the athlete has to reverse the direction of his rotation when regrasping the bar, as compared to other flight elements, like the Kovacs Salto if he intends to perform a subsequent giant swing. …

It would be double Jaeger, not Jaeger double front. Saying Jaeger double front implies Jaeger + double front = 3 saltos.

Sorta like a Gaylord without going over the bar?

P.s. Theoretical question: how dangerous would balance beam be for men? Like if the gymnasts wore jocks, would the danger privates still be too large or would it be manageable? (This is not even a troll, just was curious.)

It’s been done before during training in England, as well as Geinger with an extra flip tucked. I don’t have video but I know it was done over a decade ago.

It has probably been tried quite a few times, but would be too risky for someone to put into competition. People would probably only try it at something like the winter cup skills challenge. They need to bring that back.

And yes, it should be called double Jaeger.

In my opinion, the main reason this skill has not been attempted more often (at least to my knowledge) is not due to the possibillity of the skill, but the significant risk involved. There are many gymnasts who are talented enough and capable of learning a double jaeger. The dangers of this skill arise when a gymnast misses the bar. On a layout jaeger the gymnast can easily fall flat onto their stomach if they miss the bar due to the slower rotation in the stretched position. When adding a second salto in either the tucked or piked position, rotation speed increases drastically and even with precise timing of the kick out, the probablility of over rotating is high. Considering the nature of this skill, injury of the back or neck upon landing becomes very likely. With that being said I would still like to see a video of one so if someone has it please post a link.

@TCO….I don’t think any male gymnast under any circumstances will ever even bother trying to do beam. Jocks arent made of steel, and neither are our privates lol so forget that mess

Double Jaeger…sounds like a bad idea.

Sounds like a good way to knock your front teeth out!
