how to get a NEW gym

Annie sent me the link to the Blenheim Gymnastics plea for assistance in building a new gym.

It’s pretty convincing.

Click PLAY or watch it on YouTube.

They want to get part of a  $1,000,000  Community Fund available for non-profits.

You can help by  VOTING for the project online (until Oct 19th, 2011).

I voted. (Registration required, quite painless by Facebook.)

“Our goal is to construct a facility that is designed to accommodate a wide variety of community needs including special needs groups in cooperation with the Accessability Advisory Committee, high ceilings to accommodate sports like cheerleading, and open spaces with spring flooring for easy maneuvering for seniors. The building itself will be a steel frame structure 21 feet high at the eave and approximately 26 feet high in the center.
The proposed gymnasium measures 150 feet by 100 feet or 15,000 square feet with an attached 2 storey end containing 6,000 square feet of office, storage, washrooms, viewing and other community areas complete with elevator access to the second floor and special needs access consideration throughout. The lower 8 feet of the building walls will be of decorative block construction with the balance vertical coloured steel construction with insulated walls and ceiling to permit proper air conditioning throughout the year.” – Pepsi

It sounds like they have an architectural firm, plan and location in mind, now it is time to talk with consultants, analysts and engineers about making it a reality.
