The biggest surprise for me at Worlds last year was that China won Team on Rings, not Pommels nor Parallel Bars.

4. Luo Xuan Hubei 6.8; 8.550; 15.350
5. Liao Qiuhua Guangdong 6.7; 8.525 ; 15.225
6. Guo Weiyang Liaoning 6.5; 8.650 ; 15.150
7. Liu Yang Army 6.5; 8.525 ; 15.025
8. Tao Zhuyong Army 6.5; 8.250 ; 14.750
This is one apparatus where the new Code has worked. Routines are more amazing than ever before in history, yet there’s not much more risk of injury.

Actually China has had top rings guys for years, its just that they haven’t been making worlds teams in the past. A few examples are Zhen Dong, Xie Jianhui (see 2001 goodwill games for his insane routine), Li Xiaoshuang, Yang Wei, Lu Bo, plus Yibing Chen and Yan Mingyong have been around for a while also. China has the best gymnasts on all apparatus, it just depends on which team they pick as to which apparatus they do best on at worlds.
I believe the strategy now will be to pick the Ring guys. The rest of the world has caught up (somewhat) on Pommels and P Bars.
I think I pointed this out on an older post with this video, you guys ever notice he uses highbar grips.
