I find it interesting that in all of 5:03 minutes of video of relatively excellent gymnastics that they would choose to show one mistake and single out one gymnast (Rebecca Bross). It’s not even paired with a comparable phrase–i.e. “the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.” Nope. It just says “artistic,” which by the way had already been mentioned multiple times. In my opinion, great footage but poor production and editing.

So, was that video trying to subtly insult Bross? (That was her, right? The only fall in the video?)

I don’t see why fans get defensive and they should stop being so “holier than thou.”

That is Bross.

I didn’t take it as any slight against Rebecca nor the USA, though.

I think the bigger question, Coach Rick, is why would people complain to you? You did not make the video. They should be complaining to the FIG.

Some of these people are too stupid to live.

the fall came following the adjective emotion. for whatever reason, they continued to identify the disciplines throughout the video, hence the additional artistics.

@ Heather:

None of the two complaints about this video were directed at Rick. Also, none of the two complaints were really even complaints, so much as questions/comments posed to the gymnastics community, which from time to time reads this blog and contributes to the marketplace of ideas and knowledge.

Which is almost exactly why this blog allows for comments. So, chill out, Heather.

@ Anon: I see. The continual labeling of the disciplines interrupt the adjectives of the sport. I never took it as an offense against Bross nor was I trying to defend her. Just stating the perception and possible confusion.

@ Just Another Opinion: Thank you. I couldn’t have said it better myself.

@ JAO:

“None of the two complaints about this video were directed at Rick. Also, none of the two complaints were really even complaints, ”

This makes no sense so I stand by my original statements.

Perhaps if you quoted the entire sentence (or, more likely, even read the entire sentence) then it would make sense. I understand reading entire sentences is difficult, but do try to. It’s often very helpful.

Short of that, I’ll break it down for you:

“None of the two complaints about this video were directed at Rick.” What this means is that of the two “complaints” you thought you read, neither of them were, well, directed at Rick. Nowhere in the first two comments did anyone say, “Rick, you bastard, how dare you do this.” That is what I meant when I said, in words rather simple, that “none of the two complaints about this video were directed at Rick.”

Secondly, they weren’t complaints. Nobody said “I dislike this video and find it objectionable to me as a person. I take offense to it.” Rather, they said “this is interesting” or “here’s an observation/concern.” Then, these observations and concerns were posted for the gymnastics community to consider. As you did. Just, wrongly.

No offense taken.

I’d not even considered that any slight was made.

I’m not that crazy about the clip, Rick.

1. The words coming from nowhere, sometimes matched to the action, sometimes not.

2. The Bross thing (and I don’t care about her being shown) had no rationale to it. Other videos I’ve seen have falls and triumphs, but you can see a story, or a juxtaposition.

3. Really the thing lacked heart and just seemed like a bunch of Eurocoms saying how many sports they control and that it’s global.

Rather watch something by Spannie or AshleyAKAflippa.
