China is criticized for not being innovative. That’s hard to accept after watching these 8 gymnasts:

Zhu Sangsang
Jiang Yuyuan
Huang Ying
Jiang Wei
Li Linjing
Xiang Xuelei
Guan Wenli

Zhou Duan (1997) Gaylord 2. … Wow.

The Chinese not being innovative. I hate their current lack of choreography on the beam, but I’ve always remember the Chinese as some of the most exciting to watch because they always had unique skills. 1996, wow: I still cannot understand why they didn’t medal as a team.

To be fair, the Triple-Full + punch front wasn’t original to Zhu Sangsang, as Elise Ray performed it in 1999.

That aside, the Endo-Jaeger was BOSS. Really cool skill there! The Jam full + Jaeger was pretty great as well!

The Chinese are innovative, but that aspect is consistently overshadowed by their current “skill-pose-skill-pose-skill-fall-pose-skill” style of choreography on beam. Sad, really.
