hi, I was wondering your opinion about the yurchenko drill used at 4:34 by the girl on the left. I’ve never seen it before…
Personally I don’t like those drills. It teaches a high preflight.
But kids find them fun … so I’m happy to let them do it once in a while. If it happens to be set up.
In the UK that is not just a drill. It is actually one of the competitive vaults.
Thats right Bogwoppit, it is actually one of the level 2 (elite age 11) compulsory vaults. The other is on the same block and is either a handspring on, front tuck off, or Omelianchik entry into front tuck off. Compulsories are very useful but can get in the way a bit if your gym doesn’t have enough hours to cater for working these as well as keeping up with voluntary skills. Many British gyms loose around 4-5 months a year (Jan to May) to work compulsories if they want to get it right. The system has a compulsory championship at the beginning of the season and a voluntary at the end and both scores are added together (like in the old world sets but with a much bigger gap lol) to find the British elite champion for ages 9, 10 and 11. This year Ellie Downie, Becky Downies little sister won the combined level 2 elite grade. You will usually see a big increase in skill level once level 2 is over in November as the girls only have to concentrate on Junior FIG rules (apart from range and conditioning) for the Espoir championships in June (age 12 and 13) Thats probably why Aasha and Olivia are working on new skills in the video and the other girls are simply working compulsory moves. There are some strong 1999′s from GB and it will be interesting to see how these girls develop between now and 2015 when they become seniors.
…forgot to say, love the gainer side aerial. Does anyone know what it’s called?
Little “babybell” has improved exponentially!!
Teamsparkle call it a “sparkwheel” as it doesnt have a name in the code…
