Regis and Kelly are filming out of Charlottetown, PEI in Canada right now.
It’s a big tourism promotion.
But on July 8th this clip was shown on Live with Regis and Kelly:
Click PLAY or watch it on YouTube.
Kelly is nearly 40yrs-old. She looks amazing.

To look amazing over 40, it helps to have a personal assistant, housekeeper, trainer, home gym, hair stylist and a lot of cash……..just sayin’.
But I must add she did quite well in the gym – better than most celebs I have seen give this a go.
I completely agree with Dana. That does make it ALOT easier.
Sure it helps but it’s hardly a given. We see plenty of people who have all that stuff but look like crap. Clearly, KR is working as hard as anyone to stay in shape.
I think they have her do gymnastics every couple of years on that show. I remember a clip of her from not too long ago.
I have no idea why that dude was trying to make her do a cast handstand.
Exactly, not to mention there are plenty of women WITHOUT those things who look amazing at 40+.
“lean over the bar, bend those elbows…”
Nice coaching.
Get disciplined and anyone can do it. I saw fatties on NS totally transform themselves to incredile hotness. Those pictures you see in the checkout line are almost like the average expectation, if you get serious and diet the fat off and maybe get some regular cardio and lifting.
Of course, if you want to be a modern TV slug and put fat in your face and say people should love you no matter what…well…you’ll be a blob.
I actually think she could tone it up more.
Not crazy about the Farrah-do either.
Seriously, I saw women diet major fat off at 40 on NS and look better than her.
P.s. Got back from my physical and doc was impressed. 70 pounds down in 6 months. 80% gain average on my lifts (noticeable hypertrophy, not Ronnie Coleman, but still…), 99/58, 62! Can’t wait to get the blood work.
This is not to say that structures don’t help. Of course, they do make adherance easier. That said, there’s sparkpeople and all kinds of other things you can do to be on plan, even without a chef and a trainer. It’s not impossible for the modern woman or man to have a good body.
My point was missed apparently….ANYONE of course can look great at 40+. Good genetics helps too. But having the TIME is the key. I used to have the time. But now have a two year old and made the choice to stay at home with him and not work full time. That said, the time I USED to have to exercise, prepare the kind of meals etc is just simply no longer available. Even with working just part time and despite the fact that I am one of the most organized and structured people I know. It’s just not as easy as it was when I had less responsibility AND under 40. Just sayin’.
BS.
1. control what goes in your mouth. Purge the house of sweets and booze and that crap.
2. Eat veggies to stay satiated. If you don’t have time for food prep, just eat them whole. Bell peppers like apples.
1 plus 2 will cut the fat. Even if you are in a wheelchair, you can control your caloric intake to maintain good appearance and keep the fat off. If you don’t, that is not “time”, it’s you being slack.
3. Exercise. You’re at HOME and you don’t have time to exercise? 2 year olds sleep a lot! Get some DVDs and some dumbells and start humping it!
I think Poly needs to post some pics.
Maybe he does but he’s right.
Even without working out, Cutting caloric intake is a very effective at reducing body fat anyway. So if somebody doesn’t have time to work out, it doesn’t take extra time to eat less calories so do that instead. Really, does it take extra time to “not” put butter on your corn or whatever?
Most people actually DO have time to work out. They just think they don’t because they have this idea of “a workout” being a solid hour at the gym or out running or something every single day. They don’t feel like sprinkling random pushups, crunches, or crazy dancing throughout their day is working out – so they don’t do anything. That’s not a time issue, it’s a mindset issue.
Coach:
Thanks. This is turning into a me thread. (That happens a lot.
).
My pictures are totally motivational. Have put some up on NS and Apolyton forums, even have some after shots on BB.com. I lost the 70 pounds in 6 months–that was the dramatic change. Rick knows…I decided not to post anywhere (except NS), while I was losing.
The strength gain was slower. Took me about a year to gain 80% strength (pretty linear though, 40% first month, 40% next). I just did lifting (and swimming and biking). The 80% is an average, but a fair one. Triceps got stronger a little faster than biceps. Back faster than chest. But all got better. Same with legs (although I had to stop squatting and deadlifting because of wrecked knee arthritis, I found some othe things that still hit legs good). Only had one muscle (group) get weaker. Bet you can guess which one, knowing I was fat.
I would love to do levers and all that stuff, but I had a pretty bad crash skiing a few years ago and the shoulder and knee joints don’t tolerate certain motions. I don’t even do pullups, do rows instead.
Love your articles…but it’s not the tuck planche or the V-seats that were useful. Was a comment you had about “strength taking time”. That totally worked for me. Actually I just saw myself as maintaining muscle and kinda doing rehab, the whole time I was dieting. Didn’t worry so much about “fast muscle”. Just put smallest new increment possible on lifts I had mastered, ever couple weeks. Ended up getting stronger. Every time I try to rush, it doesn’t work…and often I get a little injury. But if I just take it slow…I go up. Based on calipers about a pound per month muscle gain (over last 6 monhts).
I was talking about you on Bret Contreras’s blog. You are well appreciated all over the net…for me…for that one motivational comment about hanging in there and taking the time to get strong.
40% first 6 months, 40% next 6. I think I’m getting dyslexic with age…
Oh…and I haven’t watched TV in a long time, but what happened to Kathy Lee? Regis trade her in for a new model?
Yep.
I was much impressed with TCO’s photos when he shared those with me over Christmas. An impressive accomplishment. He made radical changes to his body weight and fitness.
I think people should hold off on diet evangelism until he or she has kept the weight off for 5 years.
I’m just sayin’.
Kelly Ripa has to look good. It’s part of her job.
Luckily for me, it’s not part of mine.
Now for a fat and lazy person’s perspective on this topic. There will be no pictures, as those would require years of therapy after viewing.
I’m what in medical terms is called “chubby”, but somehow my blood pressure is about like TCO’s, and my heart rate is actually lower. My lipids and blood sugar are perfecto.
I walk 30 to 40 miles a week, the the added bonus of being able to do so on city streets without ever being harrassed, as I do not look terrific.
I have no health reasons to try to lose weight.
In fact, if I looked good in everything I wore, I would spend way too much money on clothes. My husband never says anything less than complimentary about my body, as he is smart enough to know that doing otherwise would cause him to have a fat and angry wife instead of just a fat wife. I’ve been married for a very loooooooooooooooooooooong time.
Oh, and if I lost 70 pounds, I’d be dead.
OK. Sounds like you’re satisfied being fat. Nothing wrong with that. And I’m not nagging anyone. I went through ten years of my life, drinking gin and being fat. All I’m saying is that it lies within your control. If you DECIDE to be fat, fine. Or if you acquiesce in being fat fine. And I don’t care if the reason is no need to competed sexually or like food or whatever.
My only point is don’t blame it on lack of a personal trainer or time because someone’s fat. If you have time to eat and stay alive (!), you have time to eat right/less and not be fat.
I know this is a subtle concept, but I’m not hectoring anyone to lose weight. I’m challenging the rationalization.
Oh…and I could easily go off the wagon and get fat again. My point is not so much to try to say that I have great willpower, but to say that the body responds to training and diet.
And yoko, good on you for the bp and pulse. I can tell you mine was a lot worse, when I was fat. 140/90 and in the 100range on pulse. I actually got rejected for giving blood (twice) for having too high a pulse. I expect that the AVERAGE person will improve their bp and resting pulse by exiting obesity. So you are really atypical. But good for you…
Actually, it’s far from clear that being slightly overweight (as opposed to obese) is even a major health risk. It’s a long way from not looking like Kelly Ripa to being unhealthy. A very long way.
I agree with Dana. Kelly Ripa looks like she’s doing more than just not eating very much. She’s working out, it looks like quite a bit.
Kelly does look like she’s in great shape.
I know ladies that look way better, serious. These were just people I came to know on NS, who aced their programs and got into exercise.
It’s really within the reach of the ordinary person.
Thanks for all the tips Polyis. I will tell my two year to sleep more and I will ensure that I sleep less, 4 – 5 hours per night is obviously too much.
PS – I have a BScPE (so I get it) and weigh 125 lbs, am 5’7″ and am nearly 47 years of age. I exercise several times per week at home (with your “sprinkling” technique Sher) AND have the opportunity to go once per week to the gym to work out for an hour. I spot tons in the gym as well when coaching. Just sayin’. It’s not BS – thanks for the kind support all. You are gems.
Dana, you sound like you look GREAT! There’s no need to look like one of your gymnasts.
I don’t get it. Upthread, you said you didn’t have time. Now you say you do work out and give a height and weight that definitely don’t make you fat. Which is it? I feel like I must be missing some sort of sarcasm.
Poly, whether these ladies you speak of look better than Kelly or not is just your opinion. Not everybody is after the same look. Some aren’t even after a look. They just want to be healthy. You don’t have to be toned to be healthy.
I don’t have time to exercise like I did in the past, nor does my body respond the same way. You are not missing any sarcasm. Never did I say I was fat – but I sure don’t look like Kelly Ripa. I am simply not in the shape I was pre-baby and pre-40. TCO – I have little free time to ensure I follow the same regime as I did before. You have NO idea what my actual life entails. On that note, I have wasted more than my alloted internet time today on this topic. I need my head examined.
You sound like a piece of work. If you think the little outraged female game is going to work on me, you’re wrong sister.
Oh…and you still haven’t specified what aspects of Kelly’s physique you can not emulate because of time. You make no sense, lose an argument and then stomp off in a huff. Weak, babe.
Who are you TCO and why are you looking for a fight?
I’m just not that interested in engaging in this any further. If that makes me weak, so be it. I have made no such insulting comments to you.
Sorry Rick – done with your blog for a while.
Dana:
I don’t bear you any personal animosity. Please disregard the remarks I made and stay and comment on the blog.
