Couch Gymnast:
Remember cute little Hannah Whelan? She was the tiny little thing in the British Beijing Olympic Team, who then kind of disappeared off the International elite scene?
Well, it seem the gymnast, who trains at Liverpoool under Sarah Attwell has been nursing a wrist inury for the last while. She is all grown up and, it seems, she is back and in form, as she has taken the senior AA title at the British National Championships (57.800), followed by Nicole Hibbert (55.80) and then, in third place was Danusia Francis (55.350). …
Hannah said: “ I’m really, really happy! I didn’t have any aims or expectations coming into the competition. So to then go out and win is just incredible. I’ve had injury problems so to then return and become British Champion is fantastic.”
According to the British Gymnastics website via Couch Gymnast
Beth Tweddle competed only bars, easily winning.
Sisters Venus and Angel Romaeo are names to remember.
JUNIOR ALL-AROUND
1. Laura Mitchell 54.300
2. Rebecca Tunney 53.900
3. Venus Romaeo 53.200

I think if anyone’s ever seen the Venus and Angel Romaeo videos on YouTube, you’d agree that their father wants their names to be remembered too.
Not to take anything away from the girls’ talents, but it’s always a little sad to see that kind of ‘parenting’ going on.
Anyway, nice to see Hannah come back STRONG from long-term injuries – gives a lot of hope for other gymnasts struggling with the same problems.
Yeah their brother Romeo is a champion boxer too. Very quirky family to say the least… http://www.thisisgloucestershire.co.uk/sport/Meet-Romeo-14-year-old-boxing-sensation-eaten-sweet/article-2342790-detail/article.html
And heres the story behind their crazy names: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/7309581.stm
In saying that I was at an international training camp back in 2008… Angel was there and she is a phenomenal little athlete!!
The romaeo family has a great chance of having a massive negative impact on the sports perception in the UK. The family seems so obviously unhealthy from the bbc documentary on them and youtube clips on Romeo’s channel.
Other than that, I was lucky enough to be there for apparatus finals. The depth is good, and the difficulty looked harder than ever. Rebecca Tunney and Venus are both first year juniors, while Nicole and Danusia are first year seniors. I am optimistic for the continued rise of British Gymnastics!
