Born 2000, Shallon is not only GREAT … She’s very young.
Novice girls, the youngest division, looked excellent, overall.

Shallon Olsen is going to be the canadian champion at 9 yrs old. This girl has skills that parallel the senior division. Shallon could quite easily Own the Podium in 2016… still 6 yrs away, and hopefully injusry free. She is the next face of Canadian Gymnasts!
I was looking over the results, and I noticed that shallon is at least 3 yrs younger than the oldest and only her and rose are 9? Does anyone else think these girls have so much so soon.? they still have a long way before international competition let alone the olympics!!! Am i the only one that thinks they will become broken girls before its time? whats next juniors next year for her, then seniors the following.. she still wont be old enough to compete international? I wish her great success but at what price.
No, tooyoung.
I had that discussion with those sitting with me. And I expect it was one of the big topics of discussion in the Novice division.
One elite coach told me not to worry about Shallon, that the Omega coaches can manage such a young girl doing that level of gymnastics. Hopefully he’s right.
One can never trust the Russian Omega coaches as they “break” their gymnasts mentally and push them too fast too soon. For those that have witnessed their behavior at earlier competitions and training camps with certain HP athletes, you know what I’m talking about. Several very talented girls left that club scarred for life; some having quit altogether or left for other clubs all because of the abusive nature of the “old school” way of coaching.
To predict that Shallon is the future and face of Canadian gym as well as the Olympics is extremely premature as there are so many factors that play into putting in another 6 years, but she certainly is one very talented gymnast.
I’ve heard that opinion, too, guest.
Omega has a bit of the opposite reputation of one of their strongest rivals, Oakville. Oakville is the caring, nurturing club that can keep and heal gymnasts.
But both produce great gymnasts.
I have seen shallon at comps. She is focused but she is definitely disciplined and isolated at them from the others. I have been told it is there strategy to make sure she has no distractions.
I agree with the olympic talk.. A LOT can happen in 6 yrs… and the record being the senior/junior girls now still have two years and they are already showing signs of a gym life… and many of them started at 12 not 9 in HP
Some very interesting comments on Shallon and some very wise insights, guest.
I wish her all the best, but…..
Has she improved dramatically since the BC trials to Elite Canada and Elite Canada because having watched those videos I can’t say I was impressed with her form, technique, or difficulty.
And unfortunately I agree with the comments about Omega.
“little girl” is an understatement, but big talent, but OMG she is only 10. she still has 6 yrs before she can do anything, and thats a LONG time in gymnastics. I agree with guest- too fast too soon.
Safe to say she is a champion! Fink and Caron looked impressed and that says a lot! Congrats Shallon!
