International Gymnast Magazine April 2010 edition has Canadian Kristina Vaculik on the cover.
Congrats to Kristina and her coach Elena Davydova. Getting on that cover is a minor kind of gymnastics immortality.
My first reaction is to be cheered that International Gymnast is covering international gymnasts.
Gymtruthteller posted quite a compelling conspiracy theory about that cover, however:

Canada’s Kristina Vaculik won Nadia fluff competition. I have nothing against Kristina I was as mad as everyone else when Canada cheated her out of her Olympic experience in 2008 and I would have no problem if Kristina being on the cover at any other time but the bias going on at IG Magazine needs to be called out.
Do you ever wonder why certain gymnasts are loved at IG but others are not? Well it isn’t to hard to figure out you have to be connected to one of the owners.
The reason Nadia gets so much play at IG Magazine is because she is married to co-owner Bart Conner. The reason Dominique Moceanu was plastered on the cover more then any other gymnast in history is because Paul Ziert is her publicist. At least that is what he was listed as on usa-gymnastics.com a month or so ago. I think that’s overstating it … a bit. (Though their offices are located at 3214 Bart Conner Dr., Norman, OK 73072. Some inbreeding is inevitable.)
One contradiction in the Gymtruthteller post: If Valeri Liukin is part of the conspiracy, why wouldn’t his gymnast Rebecca Bross be on the cover?
The more Publisher Paul Ziert stays away from his magazine, the better, it’s true. Let Editor Dwight Normile take the lead.
Still, overall, since Ziert acquired the original I.G., I’d say it’s improved. If you disagree, do not subscribe to the mag. Don’t visit their website. Simple.
Or … you can only follow the (free) website, boycotting the dead tree version. Amanda Turner posts some great web only stories.
… Kristina has verbally committed to Stanford University, by the way. A superb recruit. Perhaps she’s on the cover because she’s a charming gymnast, a reader favourite, and they happened to get a good photo of that release.

IG covers are usually an American WAG love fest so it is kind of weird that Bross didn’t make the cover. Has she ever been on their cover?
IG is Bart and Nadia and Paul Ziert. They’re the owners. You only have to read the contents page to know that. Of course they put their meet on the cover! Their product ads dominate the magazine, which basically has no other advertising and now exists simply to sell the junk they make and the gymnasts Paul Ziert “manages,” like Moceanu, Jordan Jovtchev and Ivan Ivankov.
Valeri Liukin is way, way more important than Paul Ziert in the gymnastics world. Don’t all the gym magazines, and USA Gymnastics, kind of kiss Valeri’s butt?
I don’t know what their ads are like now but back when I got the magazine, they had ads for various leotard companies, camps, insurance, and sometimes equipment manufacturers. There were also other ads but I don’t know how much of that stuff was stuff made by them.
And they’ve been the owners for awhile now. This is the first I’ve heard of the winner of the Nadia Cup or whatever being on the cover. Hasn’t that meet been around for a couple of years?
it could also have something to do with paul z boycotting the scam cup after ivana injured her knee. and moceanu has only been on 3 covers (2 of witch were shared)

Money over shawdow’s loyalty in some cases which is why they are promoting their own competition over Becca.
IG Magazine has a hidden agenda against usa-gymnastics because of the tour in 96 that Bart and Paul ran and USA-Gymnastics did not support. That is another reason that they covered their meet over Becca.
If you don’t think IG only cares about their loyalties then you don’t know anything about the way IG is ran. The fact that you think positively of Amanda Turner whose biased coverage of the meets she did quick hits for led me to stop subscribing to IG says it all. Amanda is a liar and I have proof in an e-mail where she admitted she banned me from IG because she didn’t like me and that I did nothing wrong. When I sent a copy of that e-mail to Paul Ziert he ignored me and that was the last time I ever supported their magazine.
Shergymrag, Izbasa won the 2009 Nadia meet and was on the cover of the April 2009 issue. The winners of that year’s Am Cup were also on the cover, but were relegated to a tiny pic in the corner.
Moceanu leads the covers for IG Magazine. That is what they said in their own issue so she must have been on more covers.
Kristina is a middle class gymnast she does not deserve a cover of IG Magazine. Sorry if you cannot handle the facts but those are them.
I miss when IG used to cover meets in a subtly dramatic, journalistic way. It has been way dumbed-down since the early -mid-nineties and it sucks. I remember getting old issues covering the 1989 Worlds and I love, love, love how the author of that article played out the competition very factually but dramatically. They just don’t do it like that anymore.
The AmCup winners for 2009 were in a corner of the magazine but I wouldn’t call it a “tiny” pic. That’s about 1/4 of the cover. You’re right though, they definitely put Isbaza on the cover although her tagline was “Olympic floor champ.” They mentioned the Nadia meet in the bullets on the cover.

yum, yum. More online dramah. Why is there so much of this in gymnastics? (I admit to generating more than my share, btw.)

Amanda did not quit IG her hours were cut and she went and found another job. She still works part time
Or at least she did a month ago or so now I don’t know.
This is not a “conspiracy theory,” it is how it is. IG also decided not to cover the age falsification stories because 2/3 of Nadia’s teammates were underage and they thought opening up that can of worms was ‘bad for the sport.’
IG lost all credibility once they found a beard for Bart Conner and turned a fake relationship into a money making venture. Nadia lived in her part of the house, while Bart and Paul lived in another.
The entire thing is one of the biggest jokes in the sport.
Bart seems like a gentleman.
Curious as to how much Gym Fan says is true?
I don’t know if it is or not. I have heard the Bart thing (from a gay guy). Anyhow, I think the whole thing is kind of catty, especially for those who are supposed to be all non-homophobic to be outing someone. When I’m a caveman and just say that he seems like a nice guy.
