FANTASTIC.
Vanessa is my pick already for the #1 gymnast in the NCAA … next year. Unless she switches to Elite for a run at the London Olympics, though that’s unlikely.

called this one from the start! GO ZAM!
btw i think zams biggest competitor next year will be her own teammate Pezeck
That second vault looked like it could easily be a good rudi out instead of barani (the Cheng Fei vault). She might be able to make a run at elite.
Anne had some interesting comments for the vault final in her live blog……”Crowed is b-o-r-e-d. Lets move this thing along!” and “1:40 for the vault final. not good for the fans.” I’d have to agree something needs to be done to limit the field size.
This year looked like a better, safer vault competition than last year. Only one fall and the foot slip on the second vault for the first vaulter that I can remember. Though Anna Li’s stumble on her second vault’s landing turned into a bit of comedy as it looked like she decided to salute the judges on the run and keep dancing away while laughing. Think I saw more falls vaulting at worlds last year than here tonight.
Why does she need to switch? Why the hell does NCAA women’s not run a normal SPORT! GRRRRRRRR. This is why Title 9 chaps my ass!
I wish should would make a run at elite. We need some solid girls. The up and coming girls just arent doing it for me. If you look at the girls on the international scene who are making a big impact they are all older or at least in their second quad. They look to be going strong too…
She has already announced that she is planning on training for elite as soon as these Nationals are over, and she has said that she has done Cheng vaults in training.
There were fewer vault crashes than the past 3 years in Finals. … BUT this is the year when something will finally be done about the rules.
One coach here suggested girls that want to qualify for Vault Finals must do their 2nd vault on day 1, team prelims. That would work.
I’ll bet, in the end, she decides to finish her College degree first.
That seems like a good idea for vaulting. That would bring the vault competition in line with the elite competition format. It also forces the girls who want to compete in the vault finals to actually be vaulters not someone who can hit one vault and then has to pull out a second vault for the finals.
I think girls in regular competition should have two vaults. It would make it less of a one trick event. And would give the audience something other than FTY to watch.
Yup. That would work too. And would be simpler.
i’ve never got the ncaa….it seems like a total joke…
Or the girls could just do one vault. The NCAA men only do one vault in their EF.
