Gymnastike NCAA coverage …

For the first time I’ve been able to watch Gymnastike founder Anne Phillips at work.

If you’ve ever wondered how her site creates so much original content, it’s because Anne is a superwoman. She inspires her contributors. And she inspires me.

Click through for videos and photos from the NCAA Championships posted literally minutes after they happen.

I’m not banned there yet. Some missing comments. She guffawed when Chris Brooks gave me a shout out. ;) (Big Steven Legendre frowned.)

BTW, did you figure out her funding? Sugar daddy or secret kickbacks from USAG?

No. She’s considering advertising. But who on the internet isn’t …

I understand the curiosity (which I don’t share)…but who cares where Gymnastike gets it’s funding? That site provides a great service.

I’m sure the site isn’t funded with money generated by criminal activity. That is all that should matter.

USAG you can pretty much rule out. Gymnastike didn’t even go to Winter Cup this year because of “USAG restrictions”. When she did go, Anne was given very little time with the athletes, which is why she ended up interviewing people in shopping malls and hotel rooms.

Daddy’s Money? Who cares? There are plenty of people with that who don’t do anything but lay on the beach during the day and party at night.

I wish she had forums for me. Still remember ripping through WWGYM. /wistful

It really is an incredible amount of content. now just add the community… (forum plus troll!)

Yeah, I would have REALLY loved having a discussion with you about your big hero Stevie’s fab performance in London! (You really should think about defecting to the Chris Cameron camp.)

Which is maybe why Anne is smart enough not to have that much of a forum on her site. She has enough work to do without worrying about trolls.

I did talk to her last night about “negativism” on the internet. She’s against.

She felt gymnasts were not getting the recognition they deserved in the media, so set out to right that wrong personally. Cool.

Even when events do not impose “restrictions” she likes the one-on-one interview best.

BTW, NCAA’s were not all that restrictive this year. A big improvement from 2007 and 2008.

USAG seems to be a lot more “restrictive” than the NCAA. When Anne did go to Winter Cup, she was given strict (and short) time limits for athlete interviews.

I don’t understand why. Here was someone willing to spend their own time and money to give free publicity to the U.S. MAG, and lord knows they need it. Maybe USAG was trying to “protect” the athletes from distraction, but these guys are grown men and should be able to take care of themselves.

I think some people take shots at Anne and Gymnastike because they are envious that she gets to go to all these meets. They wish it could be them. Correct me if I’m wrong, but she seems willing to have volunteers work for the site and provide coverage…

Cameron has been kicking ass lately. totally give him that. Kinda like Steve more since he looks like a high school wrestler. Like that scary dude that Matthew Modine goes against in Visionquest.
