European Gymnastics and Tramp Champs

Update: Hal Halvorson is on the organizing committtee. On Facebook he says that it’s even worse than we’ve heard. Less than half the nations in Artistic are able to travel uninterrupted.

I wonder if some athletes will miss the meet totally.

==== Original post:

There was some chance that the European Trampoline Championships were going to be cancelled completely due to … ICELAND.

Durned volcanic island.

Three people from my club (ximnasiapontevedra.com) will participate in the European Trampoline Championships and will have to travel by bus to Bulgaria from Spain. :-/ My artistic gymnastics coach is their coach too and while I was participating in a tournament today (I placed second, by the way) he was called to leave inmediately because he had to catch that bus that will take 2 days to arrive… Best wishes to everyone in the same (or even a worse) situation.

I find it funny when people get all mad that nature won’t allow them to get on with their insignificant lives. Get some perspective, peeps! One day nature could be responsible for live changing as we know it for all we know.

Yes, it looks like some federations might miss the meet completely. Mainly, Eastern and Southern European countries are having a tough time. Some of them need extra visas to travel through Europe which are hard to obtain at short notice. But the hosts can be happy – more medals for them (so they probably don’t care about the other countries).
This is also the only qualification for YOG and it looks like countries like RUS, BLR and UKR won’t be able to participate.
Georgia and Portugal have already had to cancel.

The British TRA, TUM and DMT squad headed off to Varna by coach yesterday – a 38 hour drive!
