Bross, Devyatovsky American Cup victors

… Along with the highest all-around score (60.550), Bross won uneven bars (15.300), beam (15.300) and floor (14.850).

“I am very proud of myself,” Bross said. “I just wanted to go out and hit, and I did that. It’s still early in the season, so I’m just ready for the rest of it now. It was amazing to watch girls from my gym win this event and then go out and see what they accomplished, and I just hope the string continues for me.” …

… Russia’s Maxim Devyatovsky took advantage of the misfortune of mid-meet leader Jonathan Horton to win the men’s title with 90. 600. Horton cruised through the first four events, including the top rings score of 15.800, before coming undone at parallel bars. He missed a front uprise and later slipped on a giant swing and jumped off. He finished strong on high bar to second at 90.150.

“I am very, very glad to have won,” Devyatovsky said. “It was important to me because in 1986, 24 years ago, an athlete (Alexei Tikhonkikh) from the former Soviet Union and my hometown was winner of the American Cup, and an American girl (Kristie Phillips) won at that competition, as well. So I am very glad!” …

Just a quick thing… at the end of the Universal Sports broadcast, Rebecca Bross can be heard saying “that’s badass.” To Nastia Liukin in a little side conversation. Personally, I think that’s pretty badass that she had the audacity to say that on national television. Any other thoughts from anybody else? I’m surprised that nobody’s pointed this out yet!

I heard that too. It made me LOLed and realized that these words must be used quite often in their daily lives. I was not surprised though cuz I heard Nastia and her gang were really mean sometimes.

I heard that whether a person cusses or not is not a good indication of their degree of niceness.

Give her a break – just proves she is a normal kid! Pretty petty to get upset about something like that!!

from Mike: “I’m surprised that nobody’s pointed this out yet!”

I’m surprised you think anyone would care.

As expected the men’s competition was much better than the women’s. I was excited to see Horton hit pommels. I think its probably more important for him to hit pommel horse in competition than to win the AA right now.

Bross was good — not great. Her vault form was pretty poor I thought, but I was impressed with bars and floor. Her beam looked good for her but still not impressed with her look on beam.

Aunt Joyce tears Bross to shreds in this: http://auntjoyceicecreamstand.blogspot.com/2010/03/weekend-in-worcester.html
Harsh but quite funny. I think she looks a bit raggy on floor… I hate the look of that last tumble and for me the dance is nothing special at all. However, she is a talented girl who seems to work hard!

This video shows what Bross’s last tumbling pass, what it’s supposed to look like

around 0:25, very nice, still got the leg form, but high and floaty.

@Coach M
uh… that was kind of unnecessary. Let’s not start a flame war here.

Anyway, there was some really good gymnastics out there! It was very fun to watch.
