UCLA posted a season-high 196.725 to easily defeat Arizona (193.8) in a dual meet in Tucson on Friday night. Bruin sophomore Vanessa Zamarripa won the all-around with a career-high 39.675 and captured first place on bars (career-high 9.95) and beam (9.95). She also picked up a season-high on floor with a 9.9. …

I’m still projecting the Bruins to be the team favourites come SHOW TIME in Gainesville, Florida, April 22-24, 2010. They’ve got depth and star power.
But who will be the top all-arounder for UCLA?
Who can challenge LSU’s Susan Jackson?
I should be picking 2008 Olympian Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs. But I find myself cheering for the charismatic Miss Zamarripa. She reminds me of Kristina Baskett, my favourite from last season.

I’d cheer for Elyse — except she hasn’t been in the AA since she won it in the first meet of the season. How disappointing! (and, really, I’m confused and annoyed by that particular decision of Miss Val’s.) Ultimately, though, I think Anna Li is more consistent in the AA than Zamarripa is.
In terms of the team competition my money’s on either UCLA, Alabama, or Oklahoma. I’m hoping that UCLA wins it — because I’m usually hoping that UCLA wins.
I agree. I am a little frustrated by EHH’s non-appearance in AA. Miss Val said it was a slight injury and that she would be back. I love Zam, but seriously…EHH is deserving too.
Maybe she is thinking that EHH has two more years and when Li has left, then EHH can step up with Zam next year?
Go UCLA. I plan to attend the next home meet.
Maybe Miss Val just wants to be sure she doesn’t run EHH into the ground.
