U.S. Men’s Gymnastics Team named

The formatting of the names in the press release from USAG is confusing. (As was the live scoring website for the Winter Cup.)

But I still managed to decipher who was named to the National Team:

Brooks, Bunthuwong, Cameron, Dalton, Gentry, Haagensen, Hagerty, Horton, Ishino, Legendre, Leyva, McNeill, Mizoguchi, Naddour, Ruggeri, Tan, Wynn.

… The 17 gymnasts named to the U.S. Men’s Senior National Team will be on the team through the 2010 Visa Championships in Hartford, Conn., Aug. 11-14. Based on the Winter Cup results, 10 qualified for the team using the National Team Points System, and the remaining were selected by the Men’s Program Committee from among the Winter Cup participants and athlete petitions. …

Danell Leyva is the next great American gymnast, most reckon:

Artistic Gymnastics World Championships 2009 - Day Six

And it’s great to see young Tyler Mizoguchi, son of coaching great Hideo Mizoguchi, on the list.

And his coach/father is worth the price of admission any day!

The National Team only has 15 official members. Bunthuwong and Ishino were petitioned to the team, unranked and unfunded.

Thanks for the update, Dave. I assume they are eligible to compete for U.S.A.

Unlikely they will, as both are hurt and, if they get better, will be focusing on NCAA. Then the team is picked all over again at USAs in the summer.

Sasha Artemev was terrible, didn’t even score a 13 on pommel horse, and failed to even advance to day two at Winter Cup. He is off the National Team and maybe done with gymnastics? Just guessing but without financial support it doesn’t seem too likely he’ll continue.

Dave, I don’t know about that so much. He’s coming off a fractured back. The point of the competition for him was really to just get a feel of competing again. I would just give him a bit of time.

yeah, i guess he had a disastrous meet (which i actually figured out right after posting my question), but i don’t think he’s done at all. he’s coming back from surgery and just needs more time. like i said, i hope he will redeem himself at nationals. and by the car he drives (at least from what he said he drives in an interview from a year or two back), i don’t think funding will be a problem.
