In regards to the acro program being under the FIG and GA umbrella- I know the International Federation of Sports Acrobatics (as it was called) merged with FIG on the hope/promise that FIG could push the sport to the Olympic level by 2008... well that didn't happen! Though I definitely see Acro as a branch of gymnastics (common equipment and the general skills of the sport).
