I think that depends on whether the person knew the double back was dodgy in the first place.

Susan has been doing that back headspring since at least 1999.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-V7vOhGIvE

When she went elite lots of people were saying the same thing you're saying. Then somebody explained what she's actually doing. Supposedly, she's whipping over her head, not onto it. I don't know if it's true or not but it makes no sense for somebody to be able to intentionally flip onto their head/neck for 10+ years and still be perfectly fine.

I definitely hear you there... but I still think there's a difference between chucking a dodgy double back and landing on your head, and INTENTIONALLY flipping onto your head/neck.

Well, honestly speaking, no one should be doing any gymnastics at all. It's pointless and you could get hurt just to do something that looks cool.

There's something really terrifying about back headsprings... Not a fan. Don't care if people think it looks cool, no one should be doing that to themselves.

If I remember correctly, when she was doing that back headspring as a jr. elite there was plenty on the interwebs about her. Folks talking about how the move was soooo dangerous and her coaches should never have taught it to her. Turned out she learned it on her own on her backyard trampoline or something.
